I signed up for itunes match and uploaded all my songs.  But my iphone is already full of songs, and now when I sync it with iTunes, there's no option to select what songs to sync.  So how do I delete songs from my iphone to make room from more?

iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Figured it out and now I feel dumb - it's the same way you delete emails and text messages - just swipe your finger to right on the song (or album) and the red delete button comes up.

That's great, but what if you want to start fresh on your iphone with just a couple of playlists on your phone.  How do you get rid of the rest?

Also you can't swipe on a song to remove it when you are looking at a playlist only when you are looking at the whole song list.

I also found an easy way to remove all music on the iPhone and rely only on the songs in the iTunes Match cloud. On the iPhone, go to Settings -> Usage -> Music, and then swipe to the right on the "All Music" item, and then tap the "Delete" button, and it will remove all of your music from the iPhone, and all of your songs in the Music app will appear with cloud icons.

I found it to be a nice way to free up several GB of space on my iPhone... now there's more room to capture those HD home movies of the kids!

Great discussion!  My iPhone  is full.   I will delete all my "physical" music from my iPhone  using ScottyCA's suggestion.

Next issue: There are times when I do not have access to the internet and I still want to listen to music with my iPhone.   Is there a way to get some playlists back ONTO my device?   I don't mean songs, I mean a few playlists.

Since iTunes Match / iCloud went into effect, if I access my iPhone via iTunes, the option to manage the music (ie, the ability to sync playlists), has been removed or disabled.

Do I have to turn iTunes Match off, sync the phone and turn it back on again?   Or what?

Dan, I found out how to do this just the other day. If you open up your playlist on your iPhone, and scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll see a "Download All" button with a cloud icon on it. If you press this button, it will download all of the songs (and only the songs) in that playlist to the local device. I suggest doing this while on WiFi, of course, as it can take a while for large playlists.

Anyway, I hope this helps. It saved me from having to turn off match and re-sync to the computer, like you were saying.
