Q: iTunes Freezes when ipod is connected

When I connect my ipod to my computer my iTunes freezes up. I just recently restored my ipod so I lost all of my songs and now I can't reload them onto my ipod. My ipod continutally says "Do Not Disconnect" but my iTunes is frozen. Any thoughts? I've reset my ipod and I also restarted the computer. If I wait for a long time my iTunes says it found a corrupt ipod and it needs restored, even though I have done that a few times. It's frustrating so any help would be appreciated.

I have had luck by putting my iPod 30G into disk mode. Connect it to my computer and iTunes recognizes it straight away

I have the iPod Classic 80gig. How do you put it in disk mode? I've had no luck whatsoever for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I'm starting to think Apple reall doesn't care or nobody has brought it to their attention.

I know this may not be the ideal solution for everyone but I ran upon this while I was trying to troubleshoot the same issue.

I was given an iPod from a friend and it would load the iPod for a second then iTunes would freeze.

In Windows - open "My Computer" and right click on your iPod, then click Format.

Make sure you don't change the Format option as this may mess up your iPod. Ensure "Quick Format" is selected.

Once the format is complete iTunes will recognize your iPod and say it needs to be restored.  Once your iPod has been restored iTunes will not freeze and you will be able to sync your iPod.

Be careful when you Format your iPod because you will loose ALL data.  For me, that didn't matter, everything I needed was in my iTunes.

    Hope this helps someone.

    SOLUTION:

Delete your Ipod in the Itunes options screen, and delete the history, it works for me now

Another solution worked for me...  Hard reset your ipod touch by holding down the power and menu buttons until the ipod shuts off.  Plug into your computer  while power is still off and wait for your computer to turn on the ipod... after that the problem was fixed.  Took a few minutes to power back up but worked perfectly.

Thank you so much gothminion this thing has really been a pain all day.

I found that, like gothminion, going to iTunes and clicking Edit>Preferences>Devices and checking off  "Prevent iPhones, iPods and iPads from syncing automatically"

I strongly recommend you try this if you are like me and all the other ones didn't work.

Forget what i said above, a few hours later it stopped working... go figure. I'm gonna return this ipod or I'm going to Apple HQ to shove it up - I mean shove a complaint into the mailbox.

I also have a ipod 80gb Classic and I'm having the same problem with itunes freezing, and not syncing with my ipod.  I've already replaced my ipod once, Apple said it's a problem with my PC.  Any other solutions out there?

With itunes open and the device plugged in I went to control panel, administrative tools, services, then I STOPPED the Apple Mobile Device service, waited a few seconds, restarted the service, closed itunes and opened it again and now itunes does not freeze when I plug my iphone in!

I had the same problem. I went into Task Manger, and disabled an Audible process as well as my Playon process, and then iTunes would sync.
