I have been working on a document for several hours and manually saved two versions. When trying to access those versions all I get are black screenshots where the docs should be that say "unable to open version," which has defeated the point of switching to pages. Any suggestions?

What versions of Pages & OSX are you running?

Where did you save the documents to?

What did you save the versions as?

What do you mean by access? Double click on documents, drag to Pages' icon, open from within Pages?

What 'black screeenshots'? Where? In Finder? In Pages?

I'm having the same issue. Went to Genius Bar. They deleted a folder called "Saved Application State" in my user folder. That fixed it ... for about a day and then it came back. Still trying to track down why.

    Your mileage may vary.

Sorry, "Saved Application State" is in the Library folder in your user folder. In the finder, hold down the option key while clicking the "Go" menu. Your library folder will be in the pull down menu.

I have this problem with files outside of dropbox as well.

I had the same issue with all applications versions windows.

They where all blank with the message Unable To Open... displayed.

Applying the 10.7.3 Combo Update fixed it.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks ... Ken

If it is black that shows that no versions were saved.

Had you saved the document with a name to a local volume that you have permissions to read?

There should have been lots of versions saved.

    Happened in multiple apps.

Versions returned after applying the 10.7.3 Combo Update so they where there.

    Permissions where correct.

    Thanks ... Ken

I'm seeing the same behavior, using Keynote '09 (5.3) on OS 10.8.5:

    - For a file created in a Dropbox folder, when trying to access past versions, get the black "unable..." screen

    - For a file created on the Desktop, which retrieves versions correctly, when moved to Dropbox it loses the ability to access the previous versions

    - A file created on the Desktop, moved to Dropbox, and then moved back to the Desktop isn't able to read the versions previously accessible when it was on the Desktop
