Q: iPhone 4s Battery Life?

My iPhone 4s battery seems terrible! Almost equivalent to my 3GS and it's terrible battery life. When I got my iPhone yesterday and restored from backup I noticed nothing really changed with minimal usage and standby! Is this normal or should I consider setting it up as a new phone because maybe something is running in the background that's causing it to drop a percentage every few minutes under light usage? Input would be great!

I also have serial beginning with C3

I lose 20-25 percent battery usage per hour still (see other posts)

Battery dead after 3.5 hours, no gaming or video, just on twitter

Going back for third time to apple store tomorrow. If they do not have a definitive answer to the battery issue, or an ETA of an update, I am returning the phone.  Will get an android.  Siri is a nice touch, but this is an unprecedented battery drain, and apple is silent on the issue and evidently ( based on that silence) do not care

Serial #s Aren't going to point to any possible link:

There are many with first C3- Serials that are working fine : Both of mine(CDMA), several coworkers(CDMA) and ones that have posted here to name a few.

You may be right about 3G but actually those devices are a bit too complex in terms of usage and condition scenarios to be analyzed in a linear way insofar as symptoms go. Imagine someone had the exact same setup as you but his wifi equipment was configured with a low TTL setup or had an unreliable signal i.e. push would have to be reinitialized very often. So there would be a drain. So for two apparently identical setup there would be drain in one case and not in the other. Or lets say another scenario where this other guy would have a 1 hour commute through train and they would have 3G repeaters in the train - my point here is coverage. Again, similar scenario, different result.

It goes that far, in my opinion.

    Nicely Said 1A,

I think this is a big part of this issue we both have discussed here. Signal strength IS the MAJOR Key in Drain.

And looking at what info when given that GSM I feel is an issue here. Were there are some CDMA problems posted more are GSM (euro especial noted on this forum "GSM") and Sim issues. GSM taxed to limits, coverage issues, etc-etc-etc.

Weak tower signal as we know causes Higher drain.

    Just my insight.

I received my iphone 4s yesterday and have restored it via icloud and my account. everything is as per my 3gs.

i charged it up over night and today i have used it for 25 mins and the battery is already at 91%.

I have used siri for about 7 mins

    maps for about 2 mins

safari for about 1 min and the rest just playing around.

I also asked siri to create a reminder for after i leave work - i notice that the location icon is always on and wondered if this was the problem as to why battery is draining at a rediculous level.

This should not be the case apple as its part of the phones function -

how are you going to fix this.

    its not great so far.

Jameson, I am on Verizon in Austin and am having the same exact situation as you. I have been waiting for someone to acknowledge the 3g issue, so THANK YOU!

Took my phone to the apple store today (5 days old). They replaced it on the spot.

Guess what? SAME ISSUE! Loooks likethe battery is actually draining even faster now!

THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM HERE!

IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO PROVIDE US WITH A PHONE THAT DOESNT EVEN LAST HALF A DAY (for some on a 24 month contract!!) AND NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM.

edit: Not to mention all the heartache that has gone into what should have been a painfree NEW purchase. I have spent about 2 days troubleshooting, taking time of work to get it replaced etc. I am so angry at this point. This is the last purchase apple will ever see from me!

Why don't we have the option to switch between 3G and 2G. For most of the things we do on the web, 2G would be enough and would save battery.

One trick I tried that seemed to help a my battery issue, was to start the inicial setup of the device without having the sim card inserted...

All the rest, I applied most of the advises given in this forum.

Also, the way the battery is measured is insane! Sometimes I'm at 100% for while too long and suddenly it starts dropping rapidly...

    Makes no sense...

I have had my phone just over 3 days and I am experiencing the same dramatic loss of battery. I was losing ~ 20% + of reported charge in an hour when disconnected from the computer. I have now disabled Location Services and set Siri "raise ..." to off. So I have no "Find my iPhone" service - a reason I was keen on the handset.  I have also now switched off mobile data network - just data over WiFi and so have disabled the iCloud backup - it will sync when I connect to iTunes. In 3 hours since I charged to 100% I am now at 83%. Still awful considering I have made 2 x 1 minute phone calls and nothing else. However it might last through the day until I get back to the house. That is a damning statement - a phone which did not make it through an 8 hour working day with a couple of phone calls and viewing 1 music video!

Since I have had it only a matter of days - I am very concerned if I should just cut my losses and go back to BBerry - which I used before. I used to get days of usage with constant data connection.

I am not simply trying to "have a go" - this issue really does make the handset impractical for me - and why provide services which I have to turn off in order to be able to keep the battery life?

I am disappointed and also quite irritated - I think there is an assumption made at the design stage that we are all permanently near a charger/network and so it does not matter. Well we are not all in that situation.

If Apple wish to test my handset - feel free - there is no exaggeration of the figures in the least on my part !!  My son has an iPhone 4 - it does not lose power in this way.

    Wow, those are fantastic times!

Just one question: are you using whatsapp?

I saw a couple of issues in another forum, in some cases it seems to be related to whatsapp running in multitasking. But as i said, in some cases.

This is what I have right now since I changed from IMAP to EXCHANGE.

Not that much usage all over the day but still a lot of capacity left on my battery:

    I'm lucky with this

More and more people keep buying iPhones, new iPhones, and they're finding that even the just-a-few-days-old ones are also having issues. I won't be exchanging it at the store because I already have a full body screen protector and wouldn't want it to go to waste. Besides, it doesn't seem like it's getting too many people anywhere. I know everyone is getting very anxious. With a company like Apple, yeah they might not have acknowledged the problem, but you can sure bet that they are working on it. I hope they take all the tests they need with this new iOS 5.1 and when they finally release it, have it fix the problem once in for all, not just a quick patch to get through the night. That's just my opinion.

Nice to see so much feedback and so many attempts to resolve peoples issues. A decent commnity and forums.

O2 in the UK did not question me when I contacted them - they said they have the same issues with their own phones. Which begs the question - why was the ios/handset combination released in this state?

I am genuinely so disappointed - this represents a big financial outlay and personal effort - we should be beyond this kind on nonsense with products such as this.

I do not intend to sit on my hands and wait for an Apple update to give me back a little bit of my service - this is a 2 year contract and I cannot change phones. In 2 years it will probably discharge faster than I can pump power into it. I am returning it now - changing back to BBerry and feel I have learnt a lesson.

And I intend to tell everyone I know about my experience - people should be made aware of known issues such as this before commiting to the devices - not have to trawl forums and Google looking for issues and then being unsure if it is just the unlucky few...

On a different note - my wife made the better choice going with her Android handset I believe - I never thought I would say that!

    :-(

Because of the SIRI. Siri does not work on 2G. So the only option is to turn off 3G or not.
