    Hi, folks!

I've been having this problem with iTunes for months now. When I saw Spyware Doctor come up as a possible culprit, I went to pctools.com and did some searching to see if PC Tools is aware of any iTunes issues. Lo and behold, I give you this:

    http://www.pctools.com/kb/article/protection-software-itunes-is-not-working-corr ectly-with-pc-tools-protection-software-installed-fixed-323.html

So--if you have Spyware Doctor with Antivirus (like I do), there is interference with "PC Tools LSP." They have a fix for this, and you can read it here, but it's basically this:

    1) log into your pctools account

    2) click on the license for your Spyware Doctors program

    3) Under "Supported PlugIns," uncheck the "email guard"

    4) Open up Spyware Doctor, then run a smart update. (You might not get any updates, depending on when you last updated the program. I didn't get anything.)

    5) Reboot your computer.

This should fix things! I was skeptical about this because I didn't have to update Spyware Doctor at all, but this did the trick, all right. For some of the folks who have this problem, it just might be Spyware Doctor's fault (or PC Tools Internet Security).

    Hope this helps!

The  command: "netsh winsock reset" (run as admin from command line) did resolve the Itunes Store issue. Unfortunately, now I can't sync my iPhone with my computer. It doesn't recognize the device as being attached at all. Any ideas?

Actually, I ran the command "netsh winsock reset" from command line as admin. All worked well EXCEPT sync'ing. Then I rebooted and now even sync works. It was about a month of agony and wrestling. I was ready to give up on Apple. As it is, I'm still a little bruised. Android is looking better, maybe?

I tried every solution from Apple, every one on all the threads i've found and nothing worked.  I finally completely uninstalled NetNanny, previously I just disabled it, and it worked.  I'm going to try to reinstall it now, but we'll see.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Weeks of frustration gone for now.

Contacted NetNanny, and they indicated it was their issue, not iTunes.  They said that the filtering type programs are having issues with iTunes, so if you have something similar, NetNanny, Covenant Eyes, or any number of other filtering or sometimes antivirus, check the interference with that program.  I'm up and running fine now and NetNanny is working on a permanent solution on their end.

If any one is interested, I had this problem for months too, and yes, using Net Nanny.

After reading the last post above, I went to Net Nanny settings and added iTunes to the list of Program Exceptions.

And, at long last, iTunes store loads...........sigh of relief.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes at least three times in desparation.

I was having the same problem and found a  posting on  the web which solved my problem.   In the Net Nanny Web Exceptions for the user with the problem enter the following exceptions:

    gs.apple.com
    albert.apple.com
    ax.itunes.apple.com
    itunes.apple.com

Also, add make sure the Itunes is added to the application exceptions.  This completely solved my problem.  Hope it helps!

I had the same problem and have tried EVERY suggestion on this site and apple support for WEEKS after downloading update 10.5.2 ...FINALLY found this "fix" ... I re-named my itunes to iTunes.10.5.2 (had to fix shortcut on my desktop).  It works better than it did before!!!  I can access the store!  this was SO frustrating.   I hope this works for you

Just fixed this same problem today. After pouring over all the trouble shooting forums for this problem something caught my eye. It stated that even though you disable a antivirus program it could still cause you problems. I deleted AVG free antivirus and did not fix my problem. Although Spyware Dr was disabled I deleted it and my problem was solved. Itunes store now works after being down since my last Itunes update. I was sure it was going to be a Itunes problem but was wrong.

thanku rough-ready, i followed your instructions re netnanny to a t & finally i can use my itunes store.

i used instructions from many online forums and yours was the only one that worked.  itunes support network was hopeless i wouldn't recommend them to anyone, takes itunes users to work out the problems on their own & they do a better job than the experts. once again thanx heaps.

I had the same problem....tried all the fixes, none worked. It ended up being my pctools virus protection conflict. Review your license on pctools  and get the latest version. It self corrects after intslling and rebooting

After messing with this for a long time this solution worked.

It also happened somehow to solve the fact that ITunes was using 100% of my CPU.

    Thanks!
