iPad 2 stops playing music.

I've searched and found quite a few threads along this line but none specifically for the iPad with my exact problem and none of the other solutions worked for me so here goes:

 

Ever since I upgraded to iOS5 (now 5.0.1), while using the Music app on "shuffle" my iPad it will play 2 or 3 songs and then just stop. The "play" button still shows that it is playing but there is no music and the slider showing song progress is not moving. If I press the play/pause button nothing happens except the button changes from the play icon to the pause icon and back. I have to either quit the app or press the shuffle button again to get the music playing and then it will switch to a new song while the display shows the previous song and the progress slider moves along.

 

Thoughts?

    I too share this problem with identical symptoms. In the case of my iPad 2 it also seems that the music database is indexing improperly. I select one song and it plays another...then I select a few more diffeent songs and it seems to catch up after tow or three...then stops playing completely after two or three complete songs.

     

    I have scoured the internet for a solution, to no avail. The timing seems coincident with the upgrade to 5.0.1.

     

    Any others out there having similar problems? Any hints at a solution?

    Hmmmm. Try resetting all settings in settings>general>reset. If that doesn't work, try unsyncing the music on your iPad from iTunes, and then sync it back over. Ultimately, youy can back up your iPad and restore it to its factory settings in iTunes if nothing else works, but definitely try the first two suggestions before you move on to restoring. Hope this helps!

    Tried resetting all settings in settings>general>reset. Didn't correct the Music player issue. Then tried unsyncing the music on the iPad from iTunes, and then syncing it back over. Still didn't work. Then tried a complete restore...the glitch in the music player still occurs as originally described. Very frustrating.

     

    As an aside, the glitch does not seem to affect the music player when using my desktop iMac. I ownder i f there is a coding problem with iOS 5.0.1.

     

    Does anyone know of a patch that is planned or has been released?

    Interesting. Curious, are you using iCloud? I wonder if this glitch is somehow related to that?

    Well, six hours of syncing later and I declare the fix a success. Unsynced and then resynced the entire music librabry and the iPad seems to be working as intended. This fix works...but I am still very disappointed that it occurred to begin with. I still believe it;s related to the iOS 5.0.1 update. My family has two other iPads and we experienced this probelm with the two that had been updated to 5.0.1. Now for iPad two.

     

    The third iPad has not yet been updated and did not have the same problem.

     

    Thanks to everyone on the forum for their helpful suggestions.

    I hate to ask, but can you spell out step-by-step directions for this?  I am not sure what you mean by "unsync" and I am super-frustrated by this same issue!  Thanks so much....

    Answering is no trouble at all. I do not have my desk Mac that I normally connect my iPad to in front of me so I will go from memory. The process is actually quite simple...it just quite a bit of time if you have a large library of songs to synchronize.

     

    UNSYNCING

     

    To "unsync", connect your iPad to your Mac or PC as you would normally do when "syncing". Within the dashboard on your Mac or PC you will see a tab marked "Music". Select this tab and then look for a box that is checked...I believe it says something like "Sync Music". (I am going from memory as I write this)

     

    Uncheck this box...then look to the lower right hand portion of the dashboard to find a button that reads "Apply" and click the button. After clicking the "Apply" button look for a button that allows you to perform the "Sync" operation.

     

    Doing this will erase your music from your iPad...but not from your library. This process takes just a few minutes.

     

    RESYNCING

     

    After you "Unsync" as described above, return to the dashboard on your Mac or PC, find the same tab marked "Music". Select this tab and look for the same box "Sync Music". Check this box. After checking the box, look to the lower right portion of the dashboard screen and click on the "Apply" button. After clicking the "Apply" button look for a button that allows you to perform the "Sync" operation.

     

    This will start the process of having your Mac or PC overwrite your iPad library with a fresh/clean database of music. this process takes a long time. in my case, with more than 3,500 songs, it took about six hours.

     

    My iPad has been working fine ever since I followed this procedure.

    It worked! Thanks so much.  Also, during the porocess I discovered that I had been keeping way too many old podcasts, which I didn't notice because they get lumped in wioth "audio."  So After doing this I also changed all the settings on my podcasts so I'm not warehousing episodes I've already heard...this freed up a ton of space for music.
