The additional 2GB are only required, if you didn't had the base content installed or it was defect/modified. If you update a regular installation of 9.1.5, you should not need to download anything.

    Thanks,

That's different than what she head from Apple. I'll let her know.

    on a side note.

I couple of others have mentioned that Logic does try and doenload additional data after upgrading from 9.1.5

I bought Logic pro and it works fine after the initial 400mb +2gb download. The problem is installing the additional content. I only selected the first "logic pro & mainstage additional content" box which is 4.6GB(I was planning on downloading the rest over the next few days), I live in South Africa and to me this is a 15 hr + download. After downloading the extra content the first time the "installing additional content" box showed up and afterward there was no difference. I downloaded it again the next night and the same thing. My ISP is going to severely restrict me because of these huge downloads, it wouldn't have bothered me too much if it just worked.

Also, you can't check any of the other additional content boxes without installing the first one first. I really would appreciate any help, I don't know what to do.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the new Apple where the user is forced to sit in the back of the bus.

I had the same problem: download the 2.5 G, then install fails, deleting the huge downloaded file.

Here is the problem AND the solution.

The problem : the installer cannot run because of many possible reasons. For me (and it's probably the case for a lot of us), it was because there wasn't enough space left. As a rule of thumb, you need at least twice the size of the downloaded file, here 5 Gigs approximately. Don't worry, this will be freed up later.

Though the installer cannot run properly, it still performs the cleanup, that is: deleting the downloaded packages. You have to prevent it from doing this, so you don't have to start from scratch every time it fails.

    The solution :

    - You should start by freeing up a few Gigs of space on your main disk. If you don't have 4-5 Gigs free, get an external drive or USB stick, you'll need it later.

    - Start the download.

    - When the download is over and Logic asks you to type your password to install the packages, STOP THERE, DON'T TYPE YOU PASSWORD.

    - Go to this location : /var/folders/k5/ (how? Go to the Finder, type command-shift-G, which is the shortcut for the GO TO FOLDER, in the GO menu.

    - in /var/folders/k5/ you'll probably find sub-folders names C or T, or whatever. In one of these folders you'll find the big package you just downloaded.

    - copy that package somewhere else (the USB stick or external drive might be useful if you're out of disk space)

    - now go back to Logic and type your password.

    - if you have enough space everything should be ok.

    - if NOT : you still have the fruit of your long awaited download on the USB stick or drive. Run the package from there...

    If this doesn't succeed :

    - restart the Mac

    - repair permissions with Disk Utility (lacking permissions might also be the reason the install failed)

    - run the package again.

Again if this fails, run Utilities/Console and have a look at install.log it will tell you why. You can always copy the info here to ask for help.

I failed three times at downloading (6 hours !) before calling Apple Support and getting the bases of that solution. Now I've installed all packages.

And, by the way, if you already had the packs before buying/updating Logic, it will still tell you they need to be installed. Do it, it won't take more space on your disks. All the new packages are dated 6 december 2011 or around.

    Hope this helps.

It's a brand new imac with almost a terrabyte of free space. I will try repairing permissions and downloading the file again and saving the file somewhere else when I'm asked for my password anyway.

Thank you very much for the help!!

Is there any way to save the 19GB to a custom location for backup?

Hi See the post above from georgyK, or

Firstly, the applications themselves are automatically installed in the Applications Folder. These can be copied to new installations fine. If I have it right, Logic is the oddball with this new method. FCPX and Motion 5 place all the require files within the application packages, whilst Logic and Mainstage require files to be placed in the Library folder.

    Second, the 'Additional Content':

The downloads are automatically stored in a hidden folder until completed, and then the installers automatically run, placing the files in the appropriate Library folders. Once the installation is complete, the downloaded files are automatically deleted.

Provided that your OS requires an Admin password to run the installers, it is possible to interrupt the installer process so that you can copy/backup the downloaded package files.

Here's how (these instructions work for OSX.7.2):

Start the download process from LP9.1.6 or MS 2.2

Using the Finder Go to Folder menu, enter "/private/var/folders/" (without the quotes)

A poke around in the various folders that are inside here will reveal folder called "com.apple.MusicApps" and inside there, a folder called "audiocontentdownload.apple.com".

Finally, inside here is a folder called "lp9_ms2_content_2011

The downloaded packages are temporarily stored here.

Once downloading is complete, Logic or Mainstage will prompt for an Admin password before completing the install process.

Before entering the password, copy the installer packages to another location. The installation can then be carried out (and the original packages automatically deleted by the installer process).

    Thank you very very much!

But I'm currently running on a 64GB SSD which retains 20GB of free space.

So I would like to install the additional content to a custom drive.

Does the installer ask for a location?

Upgrading from 9.1.5 didn't need the 2 gig download here, I assume that's stuff already installed if you had the disk version.

Just in case someone missed something, you don't need to pay for the 9.1.6 update if you are already running Logic 9.1.5.  It is free! Simply run Software Update and it will download the updated binaries to your machine.

As far as the in-app purchases, it will depend on the type of installation you initially did from the DVD box set. You simply launch Logic Pro and under it's main dropdown list, you will find all the Additional Content Packages. None will be pushed to your computer if you do not want them; however, be sure that it is not checked in th e Additional Content page.

Finally, I don't know if this is an Apple policy or not, but if you don't have the ability to download content from the App Store, you can simply make a Genius Appt and they will do it for you.

    Cheers

    Thanks Mike.

What else would you have except the disk version pre 9.1.6?

What is contained in the additional content download?

    The Jam-Packs and what else?

Any hints for the missing audio-content of Final Cut Studio?
