I've always double clicked on the name of my iDevice in order to change it. Not really sure if renaming it in that Window you show will have any effect.

What happens when you right click on it in Windows and choose Rename? Does the name change?

This may not be identical for every Windows PC but this is what I did on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate PC with an iPhone 4 plugged in.

Open Registry Editor (as Administrator if you have the UAC enabled).

Browse to this Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_05AC&PID_1297&MI_00\0\ Device Parameters

Look for the String called FriendlyName.

Modify it and change the name to what you want your iPhone to be called.

If you don't have the key above you can try searching the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB for iphone or whatever the current name is and you should find it.

DISCLAIMER: You can seriously damage your PC if you edit the registry, this solution is provided as is and I take no responsibility if you break it... Use at your own risk!
