Metadata is ignored. Waveforms and length seems are definetely part of the criteria

iTM seems to have lots of problems that Apple will need to solve, not as bad as MobileMe launch but still unacceptable. In the songs list on my iPhone I have artwork and song ttle, but when I choose the song a really unrelated song plays. No chance of  mismatch, it just linked to the wrong song.

Could you guys explain me one thing? If you have a song already analysed by iTunes Match (so it has a status of either MATCHED or UPLOADED), can its status change all by itself? What if Apple added that song to their store? Such as what happened to the Beatles collection. I know iTunes Match didn't exist back then, but what if we all had Beatles songs set as UPLOADED and now they could be set as MATCHED? Does anyone know how iTunes Match deal with that situation? Another example, what if Apple releases an upgrade that would match songs that the previous version would set it as uploaded?

I reran match from iTunes after 10.5.2 (took two tries) and had better results - especially after turning off iOS iMatch and turning it back on. Cleared up most of the links on the song lists.

By "reran", do you mean turned it off and then back on? Did files that were Uploaded become Matched?

This is a very good example of the problem were discussing. "Turn! Turn! Turn!"

and another song are on the Byrds Greatest Hits album yet those two songs were not recognized and merely show up as Uploaded at only 128kbs as originally ripped. (This exact album is available in iTunes)

The exact same song is also on the Forest Gump Soundtrack. This is not available in iTunes yet "Turn! Turn! Turn!" Is Matched and I have a nice pristine 256kbs copy of it.

    Now how odd is that!

Today I face a new issue. I have a CD bouht overseas which is not available on th US Store (where my account belongs), so the CD was completley uploaded even though the CD is available on the Spain Store. Any hint?

My understanding is that iTunes Match only works within the country's iTunes Store you have an account in and if it is available in that country.  If you have an iTunes Store account in Spain and iTunes Match is available in Spain, you'd be good to go.  In this case, since the music is not available in the US store, you won't be able to match it.

I haven't had this experiece - I have CD's that are imports and not in the US Store (I am a US customer) and some of these were able to be matched.   This was with 10.5.1 btw so maybe something changed with 10.5.2, I'll have to re-test.   But at least initially I was matching to their full database and not just their US database.

Could you confirm that? Does that means I´ll have to do a downgrade?

I just tried Embrace's "Drawn from Memory", the first five tracks.  All matched.  This is on OSX 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.5.2, btw.

Embrace is a UK band that isn't very popular in the US.  In the US store, they have a few of their newer albums and singles listed, but "Drawn from Memory" is not there.  But I can still Match it with my CD rip - and I believe this was an import when I bought it, if memory serves.

Straightener (a Japanese rock band) is another one I've been able to Match to my import CD rips.  And that band doesn't show up in the US store at all.

So is it confirmed that iTunes match matches songs available on any iTunes store?

75% of my music collection is not avialble on the Canadian iTunes store, but it is on the UK store. If it only matches stuff from the Canadian store, it would be pointless for me.

I'd really like some solid confirmation before paying the fee.

I wish I could tell you 100% that you will match, but honestly I can only go on what I've been seeing with my own personal situation.  Let's just say that I don't use what I can SEE as a guide on what I can match, because I've had several examples already where albums I can't view show up as matched.  You could also ask Apple support, but I have a feeling that they won't even know about this.

Here's another example - Edson's "Unwind with Edson", from a match I did just last night. This was an eMusic download I own and not only is it OOP but I cannot view it in the US store.  But sure enough when I ran the iCloud process it matched.

Here's my main concern, though - I don't know if this "feature" will exist indefinitely.   So I am actually going out of my way to find my imports and match them first, if I can.

Could it be that the Spain Store is not included? I just try a new CD which is not on the US store yet but it is on the Spain Store. I´m sure that it will soon be on the US Store, will check back later and let you know

Thank you a lot for all the feedback Roebeet.

@MValle, I too have this concern since my country's store is new and has very few songs. I am going to give it a try, though. Not that I am blindly defending Apple here, but let's face it, matching the songs you already have is a bonus Apple is offering to us. No other music cloud service (such as Google and Amazon) get even close to anything like this, they just upload your song to the cloud. I really love Apple's idea of matching and I too wanted to keep my library organized with proper tags and album covers. But sometimes I think that just backing up most of my precious songs on a safe place would be enough. ;-)
