Q: Help, iPad's "other" space taking so much space!!!!!

I am writing this message because
I got my 16Gb wifi ipad about a month ago and I'm using it with great content.
However, for some reason the space in my iPad is decreasing and decreasing,
because the orange, "Other" space is increasing and increasing.

I remeber earlier on it was at zero but I dont understand why it keeps getting bigger....
Its taking up 4.54 Gbs right now... way more than any of the other categories.... and I cant think of anything that would be in the "other category"

Can anyone help me understand the situation??
Is it normal???
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the huge amount of "other"s?
I'm running out of space a problem which I wouldnt have if that other category didnt take up so much!!!!!!

Thank you for Reading...

I tried the Reset Network settings, and it didn't get rid of the Other wasted space for me.  I then did a restore from back up and that cleaned it out.  If it happens again, I'll try unsyncing music and resyncing.  I had just moved from iPhoto to Aperature and thought maybe that had something to do with it, but I don't really know.

Your network information and password. You will have to rejoin your home WiFi network and enter your password again. A VPN if you use one ....

I believe part of it is the applications that are still running. Double click the home button and it brings up the multi-task bar and shows whats running. Hold down one app till it does the wiggle dance and delete everything that is running. (This does not delete the actual application) Then resync and the "other" will be reduced depending on how many applications were running and how in depth they were.

You are very wrong is has nothing to due with a lower gb ipod.  I have a new 64 gb ipad and i am having the same problem.  I have 15gb of other space  in my capacity and I believe it is due to video content.  I think this is the fault of Apple and it needs to be fixed soon or I will not be purchasing an Ipad 3.

I think I may have found a solution.  I Restored my Ipad to factory settings, so there was nothing on my ipd.  I then added movies to my ipad one at a time and let each one finish copying to my ipad before I added another. which I believe reduced my "other" capacity.

I am online with Apple Support now.  I can reproduce the problem by adding and deleting movies through ITunes.  Reset Network settings cleared "Other" from 3.3GB to 1GB.  Just removing movies increased other from 3.1GB to 3.3GB.

Apple support is offering me temp solutions like restore or reset network settings.  Basically they are just googling what I have already done which are workarounds and not fixes.  I have asked that the issue be escalated to engineering with an answer on whether or not they intend to fix this issue.

No reply from Apple. They closed the case.  I gave them an F on the satisfaction survey.

Say what you want about Apple and their "ease of use", but at least Microsoft takes ownership of an issue and eventually corrects it.  Apple's answer here is "restore your ipad every week from a backup".  Not cool.

i was suffering with 7gb of other & discovered that it was made up of photos & movies I had imported using the SD card reader, these were also in iphoto & shown using data in "photos" (but much less as they are optimised in iphoto. I deleted all the imported photo's & 7gb cleared!

I had the same issue and tried the 3 second sleep/wake button. After turning the ipad back on the "other" category went from 8g down to .5g. I assume safari/apps build up some kind of cahe and after a while you need to restart. Thanks for the help.

I have this problem too, 16G iPad 2 with 7.8G of "Other" memory on it, and increasing by the hour.  I've tried, backing up and restoring, resetting network settings and the sleep/wake 3 and 6 second holding the buttons reset also.  It's a new computer, new itunes with no music even on it, so once syncing has finished the only thing on the iPad now is "other" memory taking up almost half! so frustrating!!

i was just having the same issue... clean up your mailboxes.. if you have it setup to archive mail... thats BADDD... just do not archive mail and then get rid of them all i dropped from like 4G to a little under 1G... as well as look at your purchases in itunes and see if anything at all is trying to download and is taking up space. if you are using icloud you shouldnt have to download it through the app on your ipad or phone

Just had the Other problem on my new iPad2.  Was adding some TV shows & iPad was "over capacity" so I unclicked a couple of them.  Tried resyncing, but still over.  The "Other" continued to be full until I ejected the iPad from iTune and then did a hard restart. (hold down the sleep bottom until the shutdown Slider appears - let it quit to black screen, then restart with same button) Suspect that the "Other" was a "temp" cache of the video that couldn't fit.

Went from 2.9 Gb over to 3.4 available after reboot.

Have seen other file / space management issues with iPhone and iPod over the years.  Since its all iOS, not surprised to see it on iPad.

Hope Apple will fix this someday!
