I'm on an iPod touch 1st generation, running 3.1.3. I just restored to see if that would possibly fix the problem, but, alas, it still persists. Same exact problem.

    1) clicking on the price no longer downloads the app,

    2) the ratings button does nothing,

    3) the 'tell a friend' and 'git this app' buttons jump back to the top of the app window,

    4) pictures usually don't show up. They usually appear as five gray rectangular boxes with white borders (though in one app one too-large-for-the-window picture shows up (see pic),

    5) the 'app support' button still goes to the developer's website.

    6) the 'top in-app purchases' banner is just text now.

I really hope Apple will fix this, and that it is not their way of forcing users to upgrade.

This is finally rising on Media News, other weblink:

I heard that Apple patched a security hole in their web pages of the Appstore and that's why iOS3 is not supported, and probably will never do because I don't think that Apple will release a new version of iOS3 anymore

How would fixing a security hole break 3.x support?

If apple intentionally dropped 3.x support, they would probably just say that they are dropping 3.x support rather than release a broken appstore....

Same problem here. iPhone 2G, iOS 3.1.3. Featured section of AppStore doesnt load apps icons, and icons are no more with rounded corners.

Just a friendly word of advice to anyone with an original iPhone: Until these issues get resolved (if ever), do NOT attempt a restore. It can essentially BRICK your phone. Here's why...

I ran a standard backup-&-restore on my 1st gen phone (v3.1.3) on Nov 18 -- something I'd done dozens of times over the years. This seemingly innocent process locked the phone in reset mode, and began an incredibly frustrating two weeks of troubleshooting, research, Genius Bar visits and tech support calls to both Apple and AT&T. (This was before very many users were reporting it on the forums, and before the media had caught on -- so there wasn't a lot of info out there yet.)

After umpteen different types of failed resets and misdiagnoses by Apple & AT&T, I started seeing threads (like this one) where users were reporting various app problems -- and that's when the iTunes / new OS sync technology theories started making more sense. While I'm sure these app issues are frustrating, you'll be risking a much worse scenario if you attempt a restore. Once the phone cycles through to the step where it wants to connect to iTunes -- it stops. It won't activate with your provider, and it won't install your backup. It'll basically be stuck at the pre-activation screen, meaning the only thing you'll be able to do is make "emergency calls".

I tried telling Apple what we think the problem is, but no one took me seriously. They just kept saying that my phone was the issue. (You know -- because it's so old, that must be the problem.)

I ended up buying a $30 temp phone while all this was going on. But when I eventually lost hope that anything was going to be done about it, I bought the 4S. Of course, that also meant giving up the $20/month unlimited legacy AT&T plan that I'd had for so many years, and signing a contract for one of the newer, more expensive plans that doesn't include unlimited data.

Anyway... Hopefully this helps someone avoid the giant headache I went through.

This bug is just the last step of an issue that started several months ago.

I own a 1st gen. iPod Touch, running iOS 3.1.3, and since several months I was unable to update apps using the "update" button, but there was a workaround: I had to search the app in the app store and re-install it.

I sent e-mails to Apple support with no results at all. They actually proposed to me to pay to receive support and they did not understand that the issue was related to the App Store itself and not to the device: unbelievable.

If Apple does not fix this I will never buy another iPod, since Apple is demonstrating very poor attention to the customer.

They are wrong if they think that they can force customers to buy a new device and throw away a device maybe only 2 or 3 years old (but perfectly working).

Same thing - my boyfriend's ipod touch 1st gen, which works perfectly in all other respects, now has no app screenshot images in app store or ability to download apps as the free/price button to download is not functioning. There's a difference between a lack of support for legacy OSs and devices and actually actively breaking them and making them unusable. Come on Apple sort this out.

I notice this too on my iPhone 2G with iOS 3.1.3. and I expected that Apple will fix this.

Thanks for the link. Nice article, with the technical details accurate. That should get them moving faster.

...in fact, hey, it's working again for me. I think they fixed it. Anyone else?

It seems that Apple has fixed the issue for apps, excluding the Featured section in the App Store.

Fixed in that the install button is back, but now a lot of apps that worked last week now say they require iOS 4.0 or later.

    Hi

    Congratulation to all of us

I really think that our insistence and devotion of some, benefited to our cause

Thank to Apple to finnally decide to correct this bug.

(for the history, those whose are still under an Apple care won't have a 4S for free...!!!)

It would be nice to have all hepdesk aware at first, that would have let us spend less time on this discussion.

But I do appreciate how smart and polite people are on this threads line.

I will reply to the express line to stop spending time with my open case.

    Thank you.
