Q: Events and Projects Librarys Missing in FCPX (but folders and videos in finder exist)

Events and Projects Librarys Missing in FCPX (but folders and videos in finder exist)

I am now seriously annoyed at this.

All of my Events and Project Librarys are missing when I load up Final Cut Pro X. As its loading the splash screen it spins through that its reading the event library, restoring windows etc etc

But when its fully loaded up there are NO Events or Projects listed.

Can anyone advise what to do here?

Previous to this I had a solution where I kept rebooting the computer until they finally all showed up in FCPX again, but this has now completely stopped working.

All of my files still exist correctly, but its just like FCPX doesn't see them (they are all sitting on my internal HD)

I have files called

CurrentVersion.fcpevent

sitting in

Movies>Final Cut Events>(Name of Event)

and files called

CurrentVersion.fcpproject

Sitting in

Movies>Final Cut Projects> (Name of project)

All of my video media exists in

Movies>Final Cut Events>Name of Project>

Original Media

in their individual folders

If I double click from Finder and try to open a

CurrentVersion.fcpevent

I get the pop up

The document “CurrentVersion.fcpevent” could not be opened.

If I double click from Finder and try to open a

CurrentVersion.fcpproject

I get the pop up

The document “CurrentVersion.fcpproject” could not be opened.

Everytime I start up FCPX it creates a

NEW EVENT (plus the date)

in my Final Cut Events folder.

So, any help anyone?

I'm now thinking what a terrible choice it was to ever bother buying and spending weeks learning how to use FCPX properly and that I should have used a different video editing program instead.

This is seriously depressing

Do you have another drive attached that has identical events and projects? If not please send this message to feedback.

    Hi

No I dont have another drive attached that has identical events and projects.

All I have is my one 500GB internal hard drive.

I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if they have a solution on this board please?

    Ive trashed preferences using

Prefernce Manager Program (I dont know how to trash Final Cut Pro X preferences any other way)

    Ive gone into

    Apps>Utilities>Disk Utility

Highlighted Macintosh HD on left, then clicked REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS

Let it do its magic for 8 minutes.

Restarted Final Cut Pro X but it hasnt made any change to my problem.

    A few more updates

I read that if you have a file called DCIM, Movie, Final or Video, then FCPX can get confused and not work right (Seriously Apple !?!?!?!)

I have 1864 files with the word FINAL in it according to Finder.

There is no way I can change all of these to NOT have the word FINAL in them.

Although I DID create a wav, aif and mp3 with the word final in it recently, but Ive already used this wav in a FCPX movie and it worked ok.

Ive tried changing the names of SOME of the most recent files to not have the word FINAL in them, but FCPX still doesnt show up any events or projects (even thought they DO exist in their folders).

    Files containing the w

MOVIE  - Dont even go there

VIDEO - Again, dont even go there

I DID have an SD card connected to the Mac with a DCIM folder containing images, which I ejected. I also searched the system for DCIM and found nothing.

but it still doesnt show up any events or projects (even thought they DO exist in their folders).

Ive been going through Disk Utility, Verifying and Repairing Disk Permissions.

REPAIR DISK was greyed out though, so I repaired it with the OSX Disc. Still nothing.

I tried the hide/move events/projects files into new folder

    as explained here

    support.apple.com/kb/HT4740

    and it STILL doesnt work.

I even tried it with individual events projects, but nothing

    Arrrrgggghhhhhh

Double click on one of the events. That's what I have to do at the moment. All the events then load.

I solved all my problems: somehow, in the applications folder, FCPX existed in two versions. I deleted the oldest. Now everything is fine.

This is NOT the case for myself.

Did you try deleting the app and re-installing?

Before trashing/reinstalling FCPX I decided to copy of all my events/projects files to an external hard drive (Keeping the same folder name on the external hard drive).

I then decided to start up FCPX with the external hard drive attached AND with also keeping the same events projects in the proper place on the internal hard drive.

FCPX very slowly said what it was reading on the splash screen as it started up the FCPX (When this hasn't been working properly it usually just  whizzes through this)

And then Events showed up OK and in Project Library there were the same projects twice (one on Macintosh HD, one on Untitled - My external Hard Drive).

I could access all of it OK except I had one error message. (Which I clicked OK to).

I closed down/booted up FCPX a few more times and it was all still there OK.

Then I closed down FCPX, disconnected my External Hard Drive, rebooted the system, opened FCPX again (without External Hard Drive Connected) and it went back to not recognising anything again.

So I reconnected the External Hard Drive, started up FCPX again (I got a different error message, to which I clicked OK) but this time only three of four projects were there, but all 3 events were there. But they were all projects on the External Hard Drive NOT the internal Hard drive.

I restarted FCPX and all four projects then appeared from the External Hard Drive, but not from the internal hard drive.

So I then decided it was time to re-install FCPX as I said I would.

When I move FCPX App to the Trash The Final Cut Pro Event and Final Cut Pro Projects still stay where they are in Movies folder on the internal Hdrive.

    Is this correct?

Anyway, so I trashed/reinstalled FCPX and it seemed to work properly again, but I thought I'd try a reboot to see if it was permanent. (Just to note it had also created a New Event with Date type Folder as per before)

Rebooted the system, FCPX wont recognise the events/projects again.

And its KEEPS creating new event folders in sequential order every time I start up FCPX

    ie

    New Event 5-01-2012

    New Event 5-01-2012 1

    New Event 5-01-2012 2

    New Event 5-01-2012 3

    New Event 5-01-2012 4

I'm wondering if this has something to do with it?

I encounter the same problem as thread starter.

Everytime I boot up FCP X, there's always new event created and it can't load the old event on Macintosh HDD.

    I am running Version 10.0.3

However, when I plug in my Seagate Firewire 800 external HDD and created and event there. After I rebooted my FCP X it still there and they can load all the event and project stored in the external HDD.

I got no choice but just to work using external HDD.

I still can't find any solution online..

Summary - FCP X only works with EXTERNAL HDD instead of internal HDD.

    Sigh..

This is simply not true. You have some other problem, most likely a permissions issue. If there are no other events the application locates a new one will be created in tour Movies folder.
