this maybe to simple. I started having the same problems as everbody else. I tried a few of the suggestions, none worked for me. I noticed the padlock was not locked to prevent future changes to settings (normally I have these locked) so re locked after checking all settings were correct, and it fixed my problem. Hope this helps

I don't know if this has been suggested before (99 pages, kind of a bit of a trawl...), but you guys are all assuming its the router settings at this stage, rather than Lion's identification of the router. It could be a red herring but it could be that this file is corrupt. Its harmless to delete it (OS X will create a default new one on restart); you'll just have to supply your network password is all:

    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.identification.plist

(note that this is not the hidden Library folder in your home user account, but the system Library on your root directory).

You must restart to see if it changes anything.

I thought that there was at least one suggestion to remove this .plist and reboot.  But maybe not.  At any rate, this might be one more thing to try.  I'm still interested in trying to focus on the exact behavior that is happening.  My daughters MBP has not been showing any signs of problems at home.  So, it might be that the WiFi routers at her school are a problem for her, as other people have experienced problems with some places but not others.

It was good to see a report that at least one person tried many channels, but still had problems.  But, that could just mean that there is more than one source of interference on more than one channel.  Wireless devices, like phones, won't be generating a lot of RF traffic until a phone call occurs, and should be a problem only while the phone call is in progress.

This is also an interesting solution.  If there is a "mishandling" of the reconnection, it could be tied to a corruption of the authorization.  For example. some people have said that Apple and others are suggesting that WPA2 is what you should set your auth to.  If that's the "default" that gets crammed back into the "settings" on retry because the code got changed to not copy in the "previous type", then one could see how locking, or setting to WPA2 would keep the settings from getting corrupted.

After changing my airport from 1 to 11 I tried to lock the settings and it would not allow me to lock(that was 3 days ago)......I just tried after reading this and it did. I do believe the wifi is only one in a sleu of feature that have some glitches...I have issues with Quicktime movie playback and as I said earlier Firefox is slow to load and sometimes hangs also the Time capsul of which 1 tb had to be erased because the new system said it needed to start new.....so I literally had to stop backing up because I did not want to sacrifice my backups from 2008. Finally I gave in because there was nothing  anyone had recomended to move forward....I tried disk utility and it said there was nothing wrong with the files...but still I erased so I could move forward and through it all the wifi was doing it's thing.

Oh and then there is the Itunes / Icloud stuff that is supposed to send things to the cloud and show up on devices....I have yet to see any photos taken with my iphone 4s show up on my Imac...this was a motivator for me to upgrade to Lion in the first place. I know it works for others but just aint happenning for me. All in all I am glad that at least I have my connection stable again..who know's why ..all I know is something worked and it's fine...hopefully Apple will iron out the kinks to this very fast to the market version of their newest operating system and start gaining back peoples trust. I love Apple products !!! always have...Just think they need better skills at handling a possible fault.

The deal with Timemachine backups, is that after awhile, enough stuff accumulates, that it decides it is having to do too much work to manage all the data.   It then, insists on resetting backups, and starting over.  The point of timemachine, is that it is a "second copy" of what's on your computer.  But, you should only consider that to be a "short term" storage of a second copy.  Anything that you want to have over a longer period of time, you should place on alternate storage which you can count on being around for a while.  Either DVD, or CD for stuff that doesn't change, and for things that are too big for a DVD, you might need to use a hard disk.  And, you'll want to have an extra hard disk with a copy, and have it in a different place.  You'll then need to verify the integrity of that data on a regular bases so that you know when you are back down to a single copy, and you can make a copy from the good copy and get back to two copies.

In the server world, the ZFS file system is what is becoming more and more attractive for this purpose, because it has a scrub function that validates the disk surface, and all blocks have a checksum with some correction data involved.  ZFS also supports a remote, over the network duplication of the file system.  It also has "instant" snapshots, which allows "daily backups" to be automatic.  Your main disk then fills up, much like your timemachine did.  But, you can then delete snapshots that you've made, to get rid of space use that you no longer need.  The company named "Tens Complement", was created by an ex Apple engineer to bring ZFS to the Mac.  Apple was working on it, but could not reach a licensing agreement with Sun Microsystems, and thus pulled it out.

Do you have photo stream enabled correctly?  It should just work once you have turned on photo stream, and authorized your mac with the same iTunes login as your devices.

I really only had 543gb on the Time Capsul ( I should add that a tech at the apple store influenced me to buy it when I was purchasing my 1 tb IMAC)......so there was really no need for TC to decide it needed to start new except that it was a new operating system....Lion.....it never happened while in leopard nor anytime before (almost 4 years).....until I upgraded..so that is a lion trait......and I most certainly did have stream enabled and match on ..when I bought the Iphone 4s, I read everything available to make it happen and they stated that u had to be up to date with everything so that is what I did and all of the updating only took me down a dark road unfortunately. I did get some of my music matched but even that took almost 4 days to happen ....at a snails pace probably due to the connection issues . Long story short....I expected more stupidly (so much promise).....The new system is nice but there are very many flaws that need to be ironed out. I was going to test other #s in the airport to see when the connection would start to drop again but have been very happy to have a clear connection again and don't want to tempt fate. Just hope Apple finds a way to satisfy everyone ...seems there are so many ways that a connection can be compromised and so much of it has happened merely because of an upgrade ...there in lies the quagmire

maybe this will help with debugging.  Looks like the stock source has some debug switches.  If you don't think apple hacked the source, it should be worth a look.  As a side note, my HP TouchPad has a similar WiFi driver and the connection is just as flakey as my MacBook pro, so maybe some setting was Introduced in the later builds that b0rk3d it.

Try debug stuff and let us know what you see if anything.

New Development...started my computer and opened a web page ...but can not connect! Go to network preferances that I locked yesterday and it is unlocked and I needed to reset the location in order to connect.

So apparantly setting the 11 instead of 1 may get me connected but my computer can open it's locked settings and throw me off the connection????? again What!!!! Odd behavior to say the least...but I have a connection and locked it again and wondering why/how my Imac does not keep my preferances locked when I physically click to lock the settings?

I did the whole thing with the leopard driver also and like you I have broadcom also ...it started doing the same thing again after a few days........hope it holds for you ...but don't be surprised if your swearing again. Just Sayin!

Ultimately the only thing that has held my connection so far was going into airport settings and changing the channel from 1 to 11.....so far I have had very few drops maybe 1 a day and I can live with that. It has been 4 days and all is fine except if you read the post above ...I locked all my settings to come back a day later and it is unlocked and settings changed.........Wait ......What!!!!!
