Jessewclark: I had the same trouble, but try this... in the left column in iPhoto, click on your iPhone's name under the Devices heading. It should have a row of photos synced via photo stream. It should say that all photos have been imported and give you an option to delete all photos from your iphone with a big button below the row of photos. Hope this helps.

Ah, but the whole trouble is that the phone's name *doesn't* appear in the left-hand column.

Man. Wow. I have never seen such rudeness on these forums on my life. If you refute any suggestions given to you, we will leave it up to you to figure out a solution on your own.

You're right, I was rude. I don't know if you read it, but I actually apologized for it before you wrote this.

No reason not to do it again, though.

Hey guys, sorry I was a jerk. You're only trying to help, you don't deserve to be poorly treated.

Mr. 0123, I'll apologize to you as well. These forums in general have the most civil and congenial tone I've encountered, I'm sorry to have acted worse than that.

As far as I'm concerned I had a lot of fun going through this fruitful discussion.

Now, regarding your question, I can just testify the following:

When I connect my Iphone to my mac with Iphoto NOT running, iPhoto then auto-launches. In this case, my iPhone doesn't show in the left column either.

BUT when I then unplug the iPhone and re-plug it, the device miraculously appears in the left column and then I am at last allowed to import & erase pics just as it was before.

It actually splits the pictures in your camera roll between "already imported" (both manually and through photostream) and "new pictures". What is not clear to me is that I don't really know where to find the pics imported through photostream (and by that, I do not expect to receive counsels like "have you looked in the "photostream" folder on the left column - All you can do with the pics in the "photostream" folder is copy them to another folder - I would have expected being able to edit directly in the stream the pics I want to copy, modify or delete).

Actually, I don't find the workings of Photo Stream very straightforward - Some lousy pictures I took on my iPhone and deleted had already been backed-up in Photo Stream and replicated on all my devices nonetheless, without my being able to erase them again. I am still struggling with it while I write. I believe that this tool is an interesting step towards cloud-based data management but I feel it is still to be fine-tuned (to say the least).

I know that this is not quite a technical and rational explanation but that actually works fine for me.

Brunale, thanks for giving your input.  I see where the discussion could be amusing, thank you for expressing it so nicely.

Your suggestions seem to work pretty well.  Thanks also for sharing your own difficulty with the service.
