I have a mac 10.4.11 trying to backup hard drive before installing leopard - i have an external hard drive but not sure how to back up
Use the free (donationware) Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com/
I have the external drive, assuming carbon copy cloner is a cloud storage solution is this correct?
No it's an app that will create a clone of your internal HD onto an external HD. It has nothing to do with Cloud storage. Another alternative I'd recommend to CCC is SuperDuper!
ds store reports that a "beta" of CCC now recognizes the Recovery Partition. Does SuperDuper do that already?

Good question however I don't know, if you want to touch bases with developer I'm sure he will answer your question. When he does please post it.
