Sorry, but that's the whole world minus Mulligan & Me, you're statement is incorrect, maybe you would like to support your assertion that approximately 7 billion people (the whole world) has this issue, or are you just speculating.

    It might help to either:

    -lower the brightness

    -turn off bluetooth when able

    -turn off WiFi when able

-or turn off other apps when able.

Indeed, those are the basics. However, even after adjusting those (directly out of the box), I'm only getting 2.5 hours from a full charge. Which, by the way takes close to four hours to achieve. This is simply letting my MBP sit idle and only touching the mouse once every few minutes to keep it from sleeping.

In addition, basic functions are very slow and I have crashes often.

I have problems with midi in ableton live and pro tools

    2011 MBP 15.4" 2.2 i7

Snow Leopard on my 2009 MacBook 13" C2D is faster, and gets way better battery life. And it's been dropped!

    Wish there was an answer.

Forgot to mention I just got this new MBP for Christmas, purchase a week before. Very disappointed and considering returning it.

Not again guys, focus on the thread title, Horrible Macbook Pro Battery Life!

For info, I have been using my 13" Macbook Pro as a beta testing bed for 10.7.3.  Now upgraded to Build 11D36 issued a few days ago.

Please do not put this version on your main computer, it cannot be rolled back - it is a beta.  Apple is reporting that there are no known issues with this beta.  Laptop is charging now and I will report back.

Its installed on a new laptop latest spec, nothing but a new Lion recovery with the beta update and Pages.

    Will let people know

FWiW: I have been experiencing very poor battery life on my 15" MacBook pro, resulting in about 2-3 hrs of life on my 6 mo. old laptop. Been following this thread for a few weeks.  I tried two suggested things: SMC reset, and installing Gfxcardstatus. After reboot from SMC reset, my full battery reported 7:17 hours of life remaining, something I haven't seen since Snow Leopard.

This didn't last however. I then installed Gfxcardstatus, and discovered that rather than a few apps like Photoshop triggering the graphics card, nearly every app did: apps like Firefox, Tembo, etc all caused it to switch. Firefox I changed settings to not use acceleration, but it seems unstable for some reason after this? Anyway, my guess is Lion has changed how the OS determines when to trigger the discrete graphics on 15" MacBooks, so hopefully there will be a fix. Will continue to monitor and try the laptop with discrete graphics off as much as possible.

First update with 10.7.3 Build 11D36 - things are not good.  MBP is running hot again, booted up and started activity monitor and the fans come on, checking the CPU, its sat at 100% on the activity monitor.  Shut it down things settle down.  Same happens with iphoto, soon as I open it, fans flat out and I mean flat out, no using it in a library or quite carrage on a train!!

ITunes appears OK running normally with no fans and heat.

Safari appears OK, running normal and no fans

iMovie, lots of heat an noise even when not doing anything!!

Garageband is the same, loads of heat and noise even when not doing anything!!

Big improvement Apple, nice one - thank God this is a beta

Anyone like fried eggs and bacon, cooks well on an upturned MBP!!!

1 hour to go until a full charge but don't hold your breath the fans are going to kill the life out of the battery running at the speed they are going.

Might put Windows 7 on - much less hassle - What the f*** is going on Apple? total bag of sh**te.

Anyone know a good app to monitor the system temperature and fan speeds, I will post it back!!

Well, look at it this way, Leslie:  OS 10.7 cooked my MBP's CPU.  With my logic board and SSDs for sides.  Cooking on an upturned MBP is something of an improvement.

Out of the fire and into the fan, so to speak.

Try these for temperature monitors and fan controllers:

    Excellent!!

Just reset everything, running at 64C at 2003 rpm doing nothing, started activity monitor, yep , like silent night, start iMovie, iPhoto or Garageband, oh bugger, the fans kick straight up to 5995 - 6200 rpm and the cpu temp is 101C

Thought of a new use if I still had hair!!!

Be concerned, to the public very soon, what?

Apple has seeded Mac OS X 10.7.3 build 11D33 to testers. Apple asks these testers (full release notes after the break) to focus on the Mac OS X Address Book application, iCal, Mail, Spotlight, and Safari. Apple says there are no known issues with this build. The 11d33 build will likely make its way to registered Mac developers soon.

Apple says this build can install as a delta update to the previous beta builds labeled 11D16and 11D24. Apple should release 10.7.3 to the public fairly soon as sources say Apple is nearly done with work on Mac OS X 10.7.3 save for any last minute hiccups in the final rounds of testing. Like most point upgrades to major OS X versions, 10.7.3 focuses on bug fixes, performance, and minor enhancements.

Normal operating temps from Intel for a 13" MBP i5 are:

    6.2011-12-07MacBook Pro 13-inch Core i5 2.4 GHz2.40 GHz4.0 GB500 /5400DFNFM

    10.7

    25 °C40 °C75 °C0 °C

So just over a 100C with Lion is a little warm!! and 83C idle is bloody hot!!!

119 pages of comments (so many duplicate suggestions of resetting SMC and very basic tips on battery life..) and it all boils down to a problem with OSX Lion that Apple has either ignored or can't fix for 6 months? Looks like there's no choice but to downgrade to Snow Leopard.

Looks like there's no choice but to downgrade to Snow Leopard.

Snow Leopard's not a downgrade.  It's a restoration of functionality.  SL is durable, robust, flexible, and has loads of support.  While Lion is still in development, it's not really an upgrade.  It's a "side-grade," a lateral development.  The homo erectus of the genus.  Eventually it will achieve its stated goals or be replaced by a genuine upgrade and then we'll all be on the same page, former SL users and former Lion users.

I note that Apple is out touting iCloud as the ultimate synchmeister software.  The iCloud video is indicative:  I guess it's a 30 second video.  The iPhone and especially the iPad steal the show, pretty much on screen and central to the narrative for about 28 seconds.  The MacBook Pro and iMac are on the screen exactly twice, for about 3 seconds each (shared with the other media).  Once seen, the two computers never show up again.  It's all about the iPhone and the iPad.  http://www.apple.com/icloud/.

Here's the top page on the Apple website:

Nice machines.  I'm not saying that iPhone users are unimportant or that Apple's computer customers are second-class or anything.  Apparently we're not earning our way, however.  Or we no longer capture management's imagination.

Together for 32 years and all we get is this little box, tucked in-between iPad, iPod, and iCloud.  Sigh.
