Nov 30, 2011 1:54 PM in response to wjostenby brunofromheist,Hoi,
# wjosten: What kind of answer is this?
Yes, voicemail is a carrier feature but visual voicemail is a product of Apple.
I have the same question as Jc033.
Since the latest update, this visual voicemail is appearing on my iphone and i don't want it.
I have a small data package but most of the time i am ofline and watch my mails with wifi on different locations mostly.
When i have a call on voicemail, visual voicemail gives me that red spot on the call-icon and to get rid of it, i have to go online every time.
I also tryed the *5005*86*xxxx# combination but my phone do not except it.
The voicemail existed before this visual voicemail was installed by update, so it makes it a problem for Apple to solve and not for the carrier.
Does anyone has a way to disable this visual voicemail?

Nov 30, 2011 2:06 PM in response to brunofromheistby KC7GNM,If you are worried about the small amount of data that VVM will cause you then you really don't need a smart phone to begin with. You obviously want an old flip phone because that is all you want. VVM is part of the iphone and there is no way to get rid of it. In fact using the old voicemail you would use up more minutes trying to find a voicemail you wanted to listen to. Wjosten was accurate in his reply. You just didn't want to hear the truth.

The only way to get rid of Visual Voicemal is to call your carrier and have voicemail turned off. Sorry if you don't like the answer but it's the right one.

Jan 3, 2012 8:55 AM in response to diablo_ardby wjosten,No one here can help you. Exactly what part of:
"Voicemail is a carrier feature."
Do you not understand?
If your carrier won't turn off voicemail, there is nothing you can do other than find a carrier that will.

Jan 7, 2012 9:35 PM in response to Jc033by hansolo415,Some of us use UVERSE combined messaging which is not compatible with visual voice mail (bummer).
In the past when the phone upgraded to IOS5 and reinstated visual voice mail I was able to get it to turn off using
*5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
This worked on an Iphone 3GS
It did not work with the iPhone 4.
I also tried
**5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
No luck.
There must be a sequence to deactivate this. Clearly the other voice mail number is set-up because dialing 1 gets to the correct voice mail number.
Does anyone know what the correct code is for an iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S?

Jan 7, 2012 9:59 PM in response to hansolo415by hansolo415,I have a solution that worked for my iPhone 4 on the AT&T Network.
First go to Settings - General - Network - now turn off celllular data (which is all I could do in AT&) or delete the visual voice mail seetings if you are able to.
Go back and look at your voice mail it should now give you some sort of nasty message about how Visual Voice Mail does not work without a cellular data connection.
Now you can go and do:
*5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
In my case the UVERSE number is 1 858 352 6900 so that is what i typed in before the #
When it is done I found the visual voice mail was killed.
I then went back and turned on cellular data and when I went to voice mail visual voice mail was still off.

Feb 10, 2012 1:35 PM in response to hansolo415by hansolo415,I had a case where none of the above steps worked. I finally decided to restore the phone as new and that solved the problem. My guess is that sometimes the software can get so messed up that none of the commands will work. If this is the case do a back-up first (cause if this doesn't solve the problem you can always restore to that back-up). Then go ahead do the restore as new and hit the voice mail key to see if it works. If it does than go and continue with the fresh install. It's a royal pain, but if all else fails it can help.

Mar 9, 2012 4:31 PM in response to diablo_ardby iHazeQorA,Try *5005*86xxxxxxxxxx# just omit the second * following the two digits 86 but dial your 3-digit area code including your entire 7-digit(?) phone number...
It worked for me

Jul 9, 2012 12:54 PM in response to Jc033by Grayter,I had this problem and my carrier is StraightTalk which doesn't support visual voicemail. What is worse, is that I did not have any indication that voicemail's were being left for me. I had to piece together some other instructions along with those up above to get mine back to normal. Here is what I did.
Step 1: The first thing you want to do is discover the number of your voicemail box. You can do this by typing *#61# and pressing "call." The iPhone will now tell you if voicemail is enabled and the number of your voicemail box. Copy down this number.
Step 2: go to Settings - General - Network - now turn off cellular data.
Go back and look at your voice mail it should now give you some sort of nasty message about how Visual Voice Mail does not work without a cellular data connection.
Now you go to the keypad and input:
*5005*86*"copied number from step 1"#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
The Phone reboots and visual voicemail is no longer showing on the Voicemail tab. Additionally my message count now shows for voicemail's waiting.
