Can photos be resized within iPhoto to be used on a web site?  If not what is the best program to do this to keep good quality photos but have a fast reloading time.

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

    No

You can resize photos as you export from iPhoto - use a custom size and set what you need adn upload the exported photos

But of course you can not make a photos smaller and keep the same quality - smaller is less quality

When using Photoshop as an external editor there's an option I've been using to save for web and devices.

I tried using this, and saved it to the iPhoto folder, but when I check the info, I'm not sure how to know whether or not the size has changed as it appears that it only gives the specs for the original photo.

I need to edit photos for print and then create a second version for the web.

I duplicated the original then tried what has been a quick thing for me to do in PS, but I don't know if it actually worked!

Remember, with the external editor, if you use anything other than Save - i.e. not Save As - then it won't work. If you Save As in PS then it's PS that creates the new file and iPhoto knows nothing about it.

In iPhoto: File -> Export allows you to specify the dimensions and compression used for the exported file. Or if you export as a Web Page it'll create the thumbnails too...

But again, it's that whole consumer/professional app thing again.

This is how you do that - you can not "resize" within iPhoto - you resize (and make another copy) when you export.

As to your saving photos form PS into the iPhoto library and wondering why it does not work - it is becaus you must NEVER make any changes of any sor tto the structure or content of the iPhoto library using any program other than iPhoto - saving a photo into the iPhoto libray is not supported and will not work - you set PS as the external editor and when you finish editing you save and iPhoto handles the new image
