I too am trying to transfer my photo's to an external hard drive, and then I wish that when I load more photo's on i am taken straight to the iphoto in my external harddrive. The problem is when you say drag iphoto as a single enterty, I am assuming that you mean drag to iphoto icon from the bottom on my screen and drop it into "my Passport" which is my external hard drive, but when I do this all that happens is the icon goes up in a puff of smoke and the photo's are not transferred. what am I doing wrong.  Please help

    NO!

You simply quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive and then depress the option key and launch iPhoto use the select library option to select the new location - fully test your library and then delete the old one from the internal drive (i suggest testing one more time before emptying the trash)

You drag the iPhoto library (the icon in the DOCK is an alasis to te iPhoto application - you do nothing to either - only move the iPhoto library as stated)

Silly question.... sorry, but, I'm new...

Where is my iPhoto Library, you know, the one to drag and drop in the EHD?

    Thanks

It should be in your Pictures Folder.

I am also about to transfer my entire iPhoto Library (over 10,000 images) to an external HD. If I drag the iPhoto Library to the external, does it copy it over, or does it remove everything in iPhoto from my internal drive? I want to be absolutely sure everything is working properly before I dispose of all the images on my internal hard drive.

    Thanks!

    JB

That's what I was hoping. Thanks so much for the quick reply.

Does the External HD need to have journaling? I am about to purchase a G drive mobile USB, but the mobile has journaling and they say it is specific for MacBook pro. I also need to move my iPhoto and iTunes music library. Please help.

How did the shift to the EHD go?

It's not specific to a MBP. That will work with any Mac.

In your opinion, would you recommend the Lacie rugged 1.5tb or the G Drive mobile USB, or the LaCie Porsche P9220 1tb for an external portable HD?

I wouldn't recommend as I have no experience of G Drives. I have used the LaCie brand with no issues. Do you need it to be "rugged"?

No. What I am looking for is a reputable, portable External HD, with the largest capacity available. From my research so far, the Lacie rugged 1.5 TB is the largest so far. WD has a 2TB, but it is for PC not MAC. WD referred me to their WD 1tb for MAC.

I currently have a G drive 500gb that I have had for over one year and no issues. That includes a lot of travel.

I want something slim but with a large capacity. I would prefer at least a 2tb EHD.

    Any suggestions?

    What makes specifically PC only?

Not sure, but that is what the WD website said. It goes on to direct Mac users to a 1tb that specifically says "for Mac".  If you get an opportunity, can you check out the website and then tell me your opinion.
