caps lock key does not work well.... 75% of the time it doesn't click on.

It seems Apple developers did this purposely.

IT SERIOUSLY IMPEDES MY WORKFLO

I seem to get more typos now too (missing letters that I know I typed in)

Any fixes for this pleasssse????

Apple tech support says " ... that's the way it is."

Yes it seems that the CAPS LOCK key requires a bit of a delay in pressing it in order to engage it.  You may go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES>UNIVERSAL ACCESS>KEYBOARD and make some modifications that may make the key board friendlier to your typing style (also look at the 'Set Key Repeat' button in the lower right hand corner.

I am on Lion, (don't know if U are).

I previously (and just now, again) checked Sys Prefs ..... keyboard to see if there is a way to do "something/anything!".

    I saw no solutions.

Did you actually FIND any solutions??

Also, as to the 'Set Key Repeat' slder, not sure how that might help, as this is not to do with repeating, but with initial. I have that set on 2nd to fastest setting, btw.

Thanks for trying, and if U have any other ideas, much appreciated.

I think that something actually must be done "under the hood" to effect a solution.

Take your computer to an Apple Store or an AASP.  Show them what you are talking about here.  Ask them it there is a solution.

If there is no solution complain about it on the Product Feedback website

    Thank you CMSK.

I've already been to 2 Apple Stores (one in NYC, and 2nd in Maryland)

about this. In NYC, they simply swapped my 2 week old MacBook Pro (superpain, as my digital tech had already loaded all my extra software for me, etc.).

In both stores, thet say there is nothing that can be done, as that is the way that Apple has now set it to be,

for some reason, that I can't understand.

I have ALSO filed twice (once on the phone) with tech support - Product Feedback.

The 2nd time was through the reluctant guy at the "GENIUS BAR" in Maryland,

the week before Christmas, but have not heard any reply from either.

Pretty frustrating, each time I've tried.

I can't believe that others haven't complained about this.

You think, perhaps others do not have a problem and/or they adapted?

I notice this also. I don't have TO ADAPT on my windows PCs why do I have to on my MAC PC. When you hit a KEY any KEY that key should work. The caps lock on Mac's do not unless you hit and hold.

    EXACTLY Shootist!

All the keys should respond the same,

otherwise we must all give, that one key, an extra bit of attention,

which breaks into the everyone's "brain-flow" / concentration.

    AND, as constantly happens,

when I haven't broken my flow to pay attention to the inadequacy of that ONE key,

I have to STOP, then go back and retype / correct to capitalize

Perhaps some people don't use the Caps Lock, so no problem for them.

Others, new to Mac, may not know that this is unusual??

Others may not have time to complain.

Some may have managed to adapt, but shouldn't need to,

as it does BREAK into "the rhythm", TO DO SO.

    I'VE TRIED ADAPTING,

BUT TOO MANY TIMES, I'VE HAD TO GO BACK AND CORRECT ERRORS.

~ sorry for "shouting" Rysz, but I hate spending time on this, then getting so frustrated

    because I can't find a fix 8(

Actually it is another "Lets Dumb this down" decision by Apple to make there PCs More User Friendly, NOT.

My suspicion is that a lot of people, probably most people, just can't type fast enough for the slow Caps Lock action to bother them, or even for them to notice it. That's certainly true in my own case. I didn't notice it until after months of all-day use, and then only by chance. It's hard to disrupt the rhythm or pace of someone who types without rhythm or pace.

This is no consolation to good typists, of course.

I, for one, am extremely grateful that they don't -- otherwise I'd have CDs or DVDs popping out of my MBP all the time!

If you do an informal survey (ie, google it) of Macs and the Caps Lock key, you'll find pages and pages of users complaining that they triggered it accidentally, that it's useless and it would be much better remapped to something else, and so on. Very few -- if any -- complaints like yours. Perhaps that's why Apple introduced this feature a few years ago.

Unfortunately, as I well know, there's very little you can do when you're part of a small minority of users. You could try to remap ⇪ to ⌃ and viceversa (Keyboard > Modifier Keys); or maybe try a utility like CapSee or Capster, which provides an on-screen or audible feedback for the keypress. Or you could keep trying to see if someone came up with a hack to fix this particular issue. But, in the long run, probably the best solution is to adapt. Yes, it's not easy, but you know the saying -- if the mountain won't come…

eww wrote, "This is no consolation to good typists, of course."

Exactly, why should my workflow be "dumbed down" for those who don't type much, or are slower, or make mistakes?

I paid a LOT of $ for a PROFESSIONAL level model to work with.

It should NOT cost me extra time to compensate.

btw, I'm not even a great typist, which is why CONSISTENCY is even MORE important.

".... complaining that they triggered it accidentally"

Why must I compensate for other users' ineptness?

WHY should anyone be making the kind of mistakes where they are,

as you, fane_j wrote: "have CDs or DVDs popping out of my MBP all the time!"

.... and btw, Other professionals that I know ARE complaining,

but just not spending their time, SINCE WE NEED TO ATTEND TO OUR WORK, to complain.

I paid $3,000.00 for a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL machine,

    which has been dumbed down.

My previous Macs did not do this, .... fairly new feature.

At least if Apple developers feel the need to compensate ("COMPENSATE" WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CAPITALIIZED, BUT THE KEY DID NOT WORK),

they should create OPTIONS and not force all of us to climb extra mountains,

when we are already dealing with every other aspect of making a digital living.

No argument here. It doesn't bother me, but I certainly understand why it bothers you.
