Q: wifi sync not working windows 7 64bit

So I have an ipod 4th generation, windows 7 64 bit, with the latest itunes 5, latest ios5, everything up to date, and wifi sync is simply not working. I have tried *everything*. Reboots, turning options on and off in itunes, you name it.

My laptop is connected per wifi to the same router as the ipod. The laptop has itunes and bonjour installed, itunes is running. Firewall is off.

Any ideas?

I can see that my ipod is visible via bonjour from the laptop using a third-party software called "bonjour browser", so there must be an issue or bug with itunes or ios...

Wow, I believe it will help, but I can't figure out how to enable SyncServers, because they are absent in my Inbound Rules list...

I use the Norton 360 Security suite and it manages the firewall rather than Windows. Like the above poster, I was able to enable Bonjour Services inbound in the Norton firewall but didn't find anything about SyncServers.

It does "appear" that it eliminated the flood of "Error: handle_resolve_request bad interface index nn" messages in the log file but I still get the two following ones:

    mDNSCoreReceiveResponse: Received from 192.168.1.59:5353 274 Admin’s\032Library._home-sharing._tcp.local. TXT txtvers=1¦hQ=100¦dmv=131080¦iTSh Version=196616¦MID=0xC039E8A961445CD8¦PrVs=65538¦Database ID=5C

    mDNSCoreReceiveResponse: ProbeCount 1; will deregister 29 Admin’s\032Library._home-sharing._tcp.local. SRV 0 0 3689 P5Q-Pro-Win7-64.local.

I'm with michaelfrommaitland. I see the Bonjour Services and they're enabled, but I don't see anything labeled SyncServers in my Inbound Rules list.

Neither do I. If this thing was related to the Windows Firewall, then turning it completely off should acheive the same results, right?

    All -

    The solution:

There's definitely some misleading information in this thread, but I will try to help because I seem to be having similar issues and just stumbled upon a fix.

First, if windows firewall is off (and assuming you have no other software that's blocking Apple MAC addresses or IPs like Peerblock), then there's no need to play with the firewall.

Second, the only two services that we should be concerned about are Bonjour and Apple Mobile Device. No other service is really relevant to this discussion.

Finally, router/NAT settings shouldn't be afftecting Wifi sync.

Now, what seemed to fix the issue for me was to disable IPv6 on my NIC. This wasn't an issue since I'm on a desktop on an internal network and all internal addressing is done in v4. Bonjour, it seems, pukes when trying to resolve a v6 address when IPv6 is enabled in your TCP/IP stack.

Trying turning IPv6 off, restarting, and giving it a whirl.

On my end, once done, Airport express popped back up and devices were able to sync. Hopefully it's not just a fluke, but give it a shot and see if that helps!!

    My original situation:

iPhone 4, iPad 2 were discovered by iTunes 10.5 x64. Airport Express was NOT discovered. Airport Base Station Agent WAS able to connect to the Airport hence some confusion on my end. I concluded from this that the issue was likely with Bonjour.

Event viewier had this to say about the Bonjour Service: Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(e0:f8:47:df:31:08@fe80::e2f8:47ff:fedf:3108._apple-mobdev._tc p.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.

That seems to indicate that Bonjour is attempting to resolve an IPv6 DNS server and not getting a response, thus perhaps causing it to behave strangely or to crash??

After disabling v6 on the NIC and rebooting, things seem to have cleared up. At least for now....

    Good luck,

    Andrew

    Didn't work for me, either.

I am starting to wonder if this could be a router issue.

I am using a Mikrotik Wifi Router with their OS v5.11.

Maybe the wifi-implementation in this router is not "clean" enough to make bonjour discovery reliable, as I have gotten it to work once or twice, but it is definitely not working now.

Those of you that have issues, if you could post your router model and make, we could probably zero in on the problem...

I have ASUS gp500-v2 (or something similar).

My iPad  synchronized with Win7 x64 VAIO - WiFi sync don't work.

My wife's iPhone 4 synchronized with Vista x64 desktop - WiFi sync work perfectly.

    In the same wifi network!

    Solve this issue.

Restarted the computer, ipad and router simultaneously. ipad has been connected to the usb port at this time.

    Work 2nd day!

Looks like the issue is resolved. I have done many things so it is hard to tell what made it work, but here it goes:

    - disabled ipv6 on *all* interfaces on my laptop

    - enabled snmp through add/remove programs

    - removed printing services through add/remove programs

in addition to the obligatory firewall disabling and other more obvioius things. My guess is that ipv6 was the culprit. case closed.

This worked for me too! No longer receive ERROR: handle_resolve_request bad interfaceIndex 24 in event viewer after disabling ipv6 and disable /re enable on wireless card.

    thank you

win7 64bit ipod touch 4th gen not synicng over wifi

for me enabling snmp through add/remove then restarting pc worked

i did try ipv6 off but have since enable it again, restarted, and it still works so for me at least, just enabling snmp solved the wifi sync problem.

Tad09's solution did it for me and got rid of all of the errors with WiFi sync.  Bravo!

    @Andrew Paolino

Are you sure the error is referencing an IPv6?  I've disabled IPv6 on all NICs on my Win 7 64 bit machine and still get a similar error.

I'm not terribly familiar with the notation but I thought there had to be 8 groups of numbers in a v6 address (perhaps the :: notation is referring to an address section that is all zeros).  I also notice that the error includes my iPhones MAC address.  For me the error is:

    DNSServiceResolve(60:fa:cd:70:b0:0e@fe80::62fa:cdff:fe70:b00e._apple-mobdev._tcp .local.)

And as it happens, my iPhone's MAC address is 60:fa:cd:70:b0:0e.  I see part of that number represented in the string after the @ symbol but slightly altered.  The first group of the iPhone's MAC has been incremented by 2 (from 60 to 62).  Beyond that, look at what the string is with the matching segments of the MAC address underlined and in bold.  fe80::62fa:cdff:fe70:b00e._apple-mobdev._tcp.local.  I'm not sure what the significance of this is, but I see that your MAC address is showing up after the @ symbol with a similar set of transformations.  e0:f8:47:df:31:08@fe80::e2f8:47ff:fedf:3108._apple-mobdev._tc p.local.

I don't know what conclusions to draw from this.

    Henry
