Q: Internet Explorer for emac OS X 10.4.11

I have an emac OS X 10.4.11. Where can I get Internet Explorer for it?

You can get a version of FireFox that runs on your computer here:

 

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

 

Older versions of FF often open sites that challenge older versions of Safari. That said, I'm curious what version of Safari you have. I have 4.1.3 on all our G4 Macs running Tiger and we haven;t run into sites that defeat it..

 

Another option that is 10.4-friendly is Camino:

 

http://caminobrowser.org/

 

It brings the Mozilla engine in a very Mac-like format, and is currently updated regularly.

 

Can you share the sites that are challenging you with us so we can test from our computers?

    Microsoft dropped support for IE five or six years ago. If you search the web you might still be able to find a spot to download IE 5 maybe. It is a very old and insecure version.

     

    What is the reason you need IE for?

    I've found two sites lately that won't work on my version of Safari. My computer can't download the latest versions of Safari, IE, or Firefox.

    I have Safari Version 4.1.3 (4533.19.4).  I had trouble with https://fafsa.ed.gov a couple months ago when I tried to apply. It told me my version of Safari wouldn't work and to download a new one or a new Mozilla version. However since I applied at school, I'm able to get on the FAFSA site on my computer now. Also, https://www.ebt.acs-inc.com gave me this message: You're using Safari 4.1.  Please use Internet Explorer or Firefox version 4 or above. I could go into the site, but it wouldn't use my info.  I downloaded Firefox; it works fine, as does Camino.  Thank you very much for your interest and help.  Penny

    That explains a lot, the government. They are the last bastion of web coding idiots that think everything must be code for Internet Explorer.

    Now that we know it's fafsa, we can try something else within Safari. People have posted that this works:

     

    • Open Safari Preferences and select the "Advanced" tab.
    • At the bottom of the Advanced pane is a checkbox "Show Develop menu in menubar." Check it. You have a new menu item between the BookMarks and Window menus
    • In the Develop menu chose "User Agent":

    Try one of the IE versions with fafsa. This "spoofs" the site and makes it think it's talking to a different browser.

     

    Sounds like you are on your way!

    Thanks for working so hard to help me, Allan. Since I filled out my application at school, I'm able to get on FAFSA now with my computer. Today it even let me let me use that app to apply for next year's aid; it just wouldn't let me do the first app there. Seems kind of odd, doesn't it?

     

    I can't seem to get the Develop idea to work for the EBT site; I clicked on each IE version, both before and after going to the site, but I still got that pop-up.

     

    Thanks so much for giving me this info, though; it might come in handy.
