I am still having this problem. Every day I come to work and plug my 2011 15" MBP into my 24-inch Cinema Display and it flickers frequently, really frustrating. It stops flickering after about an hour of use, but then when it has gone to sleep and wakes back up it begins again for a shorter period. It doesn't seem right to sell monitors for $1,000 and then allow issues like this to persist.

I know Apple has issued fixes, that I have applied, but are they still working on this? Cause the problem is still there.

I ended up exchanging mine at the store for a 27" thunderbird display.  They won't fix it, their customer service on the phone is at Microsoft's level.  And they think they can do no wrong.  I loved the old apple.  The new one, not so much.  I'll let them know how I feel by how I spend my money.

@ hapticdata   -   This does not sound like the same issue that I had.  Mine did not have anything to do with how long the monitor had been on.  It did have to do with activity, though, such as displaying something new on the screen.  The monitor would black out for always exactly the same amount of time, maybe one second, and then it would come back.  It didn't do it more or less after it was warmed up.  Mine was a firmware problem. Yours sounds more like an intermittent connector problem, or bad solder joint around an electronic component that warms up with use, to be honest. I understand why you are upset.  I was very upset with mine, and was quite vocal with Apple during multiple calls to their tech support, multiple trips to the Apple Store Genius Bar. and here on this forum.  The firmware flash cured the problem completely for me, and I am back to loving the display, and I appreciate Apple for sticking to it and fixing firmware on a monitor they were no longer selling.  In the mean time, I bought a different well known brand, also LED backlit, and that was quite a mistake. No where near the quality.  If your flickering is like mine was, always the same time black, it might be that your reflash didn't take.  If it has longer and shorter black times, look at connections.

    For what it is worth.

    Here's the firmware update.

Works for thunderbolt macs with 24' LED.

Just installed it, so far so good

I am one of these users that needed the firmware update to its 24 inch LED Cinema Display (Late 2008) for it to work with the 2011 Thunderbolt Macs. It's worked flawlessly on my Mac ever since the update.

    Now I have a question though…

Will this updated 24 inch LED Cinema Display still be able to work flawlessly with, for instance, pc graphics cards that have Mini-Displayport connectors on them (i.e. this one http://www.directron.com/r6950twinfrozr.html)?

Or has the firmware update somehow enabled it to work with Thunderbolt ports, but no longer with Mini-Displayport ports?

Any help on this matter would be deeply appreciated before I go invest in something that might not work anymore.

Couldn't tell you about the PC, but I use mine with an older Mac Pro with a DVI port and no thunderbolt, through a Geffen DVI to Mini Display Port adapter, if that helps.

Dan...Did you ever get this resolved?  If so, what was the fix.  I am looking at a used 24" LED display for my 2011 MBP w/Thunderbird.

    thanks

4 weeks later now. Never any black screens or flickers anymore after I installed the update.

Macbook pro 15' 2011 Thunderbolt with 24' LED cinema display.

Yesterday (almost exactly two years after the firmware update, and flawless operation during this time period) my 24 inch LED Cinema Display with Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch started flickering again, heavily.

    Big sigh.
