Q: How do I set up AirPrint on the airport express

I want to print from our iPads to local printers attached via USB to local airport express'. These are NOT AirPrint enabled printers. I expect the airport express can provide that function?  The printers show up in the airport express menus and can be printed to using Macs on the network.

When I press the "find printers" on the iPad print menu, no printers are found.

Thanks for any help

You will need an App like Printopia to be able to print from the iPad.

    Bob,

Are you saying an airport express doesn't provide AirPrint services? I have to get a third party product?

    Thanks

    Jim

Yes, unless your printer is AirPrint compatible. If it is, you would not connect using USB, you would use wireless only.

Printopia will allow you to print to the printer at the USB port of the Express.

I am trying to print to Canon MG3520 connected by USB on Airport Express. I don't see the printer listed when both the Printer and Apple device (iphone or ipad) are on the same Wifi-Network. I have the printer connected via WPS to Airport Express. I see it listed in the list of Supported Airprint devices for Airport Express.  Anything else that I am missing to get it working?

You cannot have the printer connected to USB and wireless at the same time.

If you want AirPrint to work, then the printer cannot be connected to the USB port on the AirPort Express.  The printer must be connected via wireless to the AirPort Express.

Ok  - So that's how I had it connected before trying the WPS. Anyways, I went ahead and disconnected the USB and re-connected the printer just with WPS.

I tried to print from iphone - it says no Airprint Printer found. Any ideas why it doesn't detect it still?

Did you remember to power off the entire network, then power up one device at a time starting with the modem?

YYes, I restarted the Airport express and the printer. However, I want to mention that I have my Cable modem /Gateway setup behind a NAT and Airport express is hard wired into the gateway. Since I don't have public internet other than NAT, is there some needed setup for Bonjour that I may be missing?

Is the AirPort Express set up in Bridge Mode?  It needs to be, if its not.

Is the printer connected to the wireless from the ISP gateway, or from the AirPort Express?  It will need to connect to the wireless from the AirPort Express.

I Had to update the Firmware drivers for the printer using s USB connected to a computer first. I was on 1.03 of driver and had to go to 2.02.

Then as soon as it got done, and I added the printer back on Wifi - I was able to AirPrint Right away.

I Found the instructions on the following link very helpful:

Canon MG5320 - print with ipad?

Thanks lot for all your help!
