I was a bit stunned by your reply. I wonder if I should bother answering. Of course you need to be able to remove the battery to replace it with a charged battery. Many travellers carry more than one battery, because not every location provides an easy way to recharge a battery.

Also, in the hopefully rare event that the battery breaks or ceases functioning, you can easily substitute a known good one.

Not sure why I have to explain these obvious situations to you. Perhaps your life Is perfect, or you never travel.

    Regards.

Apple stopped offering removable notebook batteries in favor of larger, higher-capacity batteries, devoting the space that was formerly used for sturdy, rigid battery casings instead to extra-large storage cells. This happened in mid-2009, and no Apple notebook since then has had a user-serviceable battery (at least not nominally user-serviceable, though once the computer is out of warranty one can feel free to remove the battery).

Many longtime users of Windoze notebooks are accustomed to removing their batteries when running on AC power, because they think their computers are too dumb to avoid overcharging the batteries. They may be right. Macs aren't that dumb, and can't overcharge their batteries, so that's a silly practice for any Mac user.

Thanks to this discussion, I finally was able to eject a spinning and stuck DVD!   So helpful!  Thank you.

I am REALLY frustrated - I am having the same problem.

    I have tried:

      Disk Util - eject CD

      Terminal: drutil eject tray

      Terminal: sudo diskutil eject /dev/disk0s1

holding down COMMAND-R while rebooting, accessing Disk Util, eject disk

holding down the mouse button while booting

All are failing.  Prior to this I was running VMWare and trying to install a new instance of Windows XP (the CD in quesion).  The install hanged, and now I cannot eject the disk.  I get two errors - the first states that the disk is not mounted, the second says to close all open files on the disk - which I cannot do.

Any help would be appreciated - this is killing me.  Manual eject is a must.

I reset the PMU and that allowed me to eject the disk

Just saw a suggestion by "sherpink1" who said to go to "utilities application"...from there you can click eject as well as other options.  It worked for me.  Thanks a bunch "sherpink1".
