hello all,

Just got my iPhone 4S 18hrs ago and it wen to "no service" like 3 times (so far)!!

  • I have changed carrier setting to manual I can select my network but still "no service"
  • I turned on then off "airplane mode" it goes searching... then "no service"
  • it only work when I restart or reinsert the SIM

Is this common? do I have to worry ?

Appreciate your inputs.

Hate to break it to you but the only solution to make the phone work is to sell it and get another brand. Apple hasn't said when there will be a fix and if that fix will even work. According to them, there is nothing wrong with your phone. At least that is my experience with Apple.

    Mritacca,

I don't them removing your post as good. I read your post that got deleted. I see Apple deleting your post as customer intimidation, trying to get you to shut up. Be careful, next they will blacklist your iPhone 4S if you still have it.

Thats what I did and - for me - the result has been good. I think you need to make sure that its the updated 5.0.1 (9A406). As I said before, I think the problem is a corrupted system app. For now its probably better to avoid iCloud for anything to do with firmware. ICloud is still in beta and its not clear how reliable it is.

has nothing to do with iCloud

it's a bad driver or hardware issue.

when you phone does it, go and look at the Diagnostics in the "About" section of the phone, and you can see the Comm Center app calling for a driver and crashing over and over and over again.

I don't if this is the same problem as the OP, but I think so.

I got my iPhone 4s not very long time ago, and it's been functioning ok until now. I've been in France for a few days, I took the Eurostar home and naturally in the tunnels the service went off. However it never came back. I've switched off 3G, I've turned the phone on and off a million times. "No service". This is unbelievably frustrating and I WILL NEED my phone to call tomorrow morning, and I have no other functioning available.

Is this Apple's problem or Orange most likely?

I am not worried.  They can not blacklist my iPhone 4S as I have paid for it and it has a full warranty.  That being said, I am only stating the truth.  I have a right to express my opinions on an open forum.  If Apple wants to remove my comments, they can do so.  It only proves my theory.

I paid for an iPhone to work as an iPhone and it doesn't.   They have failed to provide the consumers support whether it be on here or via a press conference on the matters regarding iOS 5.x and iPhone 4S.

Until Apple addresses the issues, I will continue to raise awareness until the problems are solved.

I think your posts are right on. No complaints from me. When we got this phone it was implied that it would work as a phone. It does not. After 3+ months of issue after issue I have no faith Apple cares and will actually address and correct anything. It seems they only respond to money so my solution is to remove my money from the equation.

I updated my phone to 5.01(9A406) when it was first launched was working fine( and I said posted that earlier) until the past 10 days. Dunno what happened but the "no service" and invalid SIM/no SIM thing started appearing again, not as often as it was before but still irritating...thought I'd update you guys....and hope this thing is fixed soon

Interesting that hennyMG tried turning 3G off. This implies the phone is running iOS 5.1 which is still in beta, as 5.0.1 does not have the option of turning 3G off.

Agree it is likely to be a driver issue. Doesn't seem to be hardware as, since I restored 9A406 using iTunes I haven't had a problem. The reason it may be an iCloud problem is that - when I tried restoring over the air (using iCloud) - it didn't solve the problem. Diagnostics in the 'About' section doesn't contain any information.

I also went online to Orange to set up my online account (thought maybe a problem with my bill). Then it says the number is not registered with them! I bought the phone directly from Orange...

I am starting to think that maybe we are holding the phone wrong?  That Steve jobs was the only one who knew how to hold the phone in iOS 5, so iOS 5 will never work
