Q: ITunes keeps asking me for a password to "Sign in to use this computer for automatic downloads"

anyone have any luck with the itunes updated (10.5.2) fixing this?

I updated to 10.5.2 and it seems like no change .. as I said previously I managed to cure the log in messages but I still get itunes can not connect to the apple store when start itunes with no internet connection and contrary to what i said before, when I connect iPod .. last thing at night just before bed it will not update the ipod until i have clicked OK on the stupid message. It is a little irritating and it seems Apple are oblivious to the pile of discussion about the issues ...

re: reporting bugs to Apple .. i cant remember .. somewhere I found a page where people who werent actually registered developers could post. I forget where ... also there is itunes feedback link on itunes .. i might just give that a try.

also I am having trouble with my "super" drive.

There may be a strange workaround to this problem, mainly to open ITunes preferences, go to the Parental tab and check the box disabling the ITunes store. Restart ITunes and there should be no more popups. You can even try to sign into the ITunes store at this point, which gives a numbered network error. You can then go back into ITunes preferences, again to the Parental tab and uncheck the box checked previously, thereby enabling the store. Close preferences, restart ITunes and there should be no more popups even when you sign into the store to allow purchases.

Using OS X 10.6.8, ITunes version 10.5.2, but the problem first occurred with ITunes 10.5.1.

That didn't work. I disabled iTunes store in Parental Prefs, quit iTunes, restarted it and immediately it asks me for my Apple ID & password to use this machine for automatic downloads. So I canceled and quit iTunes again, restarted it and yup, still it's asking for my Apple ID. wt_?

Ok, so now I've signed out of iTunes store, and tried to sign in, iTunes completely hung and finally crashed on me.

I even submitted the crash report the Apple. Restarting iTunes and went back to the Store, iTunes crashed again!!

I can't remember the last time my iTunes crashed much less crash on consecutive starts

(Update: After three consecutive iTunes crashes when I selected the Store, I rebooted my mac. Opening iTunes once again, I was asked for my password for auto downloads. I entered it this time, and went back to the Store. So far, all is working; I have yet to experience a crash. Perhaps a reboot would help if others are still having this problem?)

In Itunes, go to iTunes Store, and LOG OUT by clicking on your email address in the upper right corner.

try this: start iTunes by right-click, and "Run as administrator", then enter your password when it asks, close iTunes, start it again (normally, as usual, this time), and voilá!

i had the same problem on my new notebook (Win7, 64 bit), but this method eliminated the problem today morning.

How do you "start iTunes by right-click" when you can't quit iTunes? Force quit, activity monitor, etc - the fu**er just restarts like a bad virus.

This stopped happing for a few days but started again this morning.

Hi. I also was asked to sign in to check for Automatic downloads each time I open iTunes 10.5.3

Until Apple changes this in a future update I have

1. Opened iTunes

2. Go to ITunes "preferences"

3. Select "Store"

4. uncheck " Always check for available downloads"

5. iTunes opens now without sign in pop ups
