YES, I am really annoyed. I can't even use a product that I want because I shouldn't have to jump through all the hoops I didn't have to before.

***********PLEASE FIX THE HOME SHARING ISSUE**************

Nothing more than a drink coaster with a light at this point.

I fixed this finally. Several days now with no drop. Just reset all your Apple Express, Extreme to default and start from scratch. Make sure SNMP is off! That was the last piece of the puzzle that finally kept Apple TV 2 happy. Now streaming is super fast and no sudden loss in Home Sharing.

I have the same problem with a pc running Windows 7 and Airport Extreme as my router. I keep losing my libraries on both AppleTV's. I can go to my my computer to use Air Play to play my movies but that is a pain in the Arse!!!

    Hi SuperSizeit,

Thanks for offering help. I have some questions: What is Apple Express and Extreme? I also don't know what SNMP means. I am using Vaio laptop running Win7, broadband cable connection with router provided by my ISP (NTT in Japan, and its been working no problems for everything else), and recent Apple TV.

Can anyone offer a reason as to why so many people are having this problem at the same time, and what is causing it? I can't take my problem directly to Apple Supoort because I am in Japan and don't speak Japanese, and Apple USA can't help me unless I live there. And anyway, by the sound of it they'll just say 'use a LAN cable to check your router'. I appreciate the help of you fellow Apple users, but am fuming about Apple's slow response here.

    Phil

Airport Extreme ad Express are Apple WiFi Base Stations. SNMP Simple Network Management Protocols. When it's on it's susceptible to denial of service attacks. I suspect having that on caused Home Sharing on ATV to drop. Once I shut off ATV has not dropped home sharing.

Thanks for that! I don't have Extreme or Express. Where can I access SNMP settings? Thanks!

I'm not familiar with your WiFi router. I bet its managed through a web interface. It's in your WiFi router.

I'm having the same problem ever since the latest software upgrade. Everything was working fine before. I have a D-Link DIR-625 but I'm unable to find any settings for SNMP in the configuration pages. Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with your router. But most of those kind of wifi routers are managed by web interface. You either plug in with your ehthernet cable or through a specific IP address on your users manual.

So far so good! I took the advice of two different posters and it seems to have worked. I set IPV 6 to link local only and turned off SNMP and I haven't lost Homeshare in a couple of hours which is 4x as long as normal.  I will keep you up to date as to whether this continues to work.

OK I'm in a similar boat now and am not sure where to start.

    1. Qwest DSL modem

    2. Airport Extreme (AEx) ethernet to DSL modem and Mac tower

    3. Mac tower (my media server always running iTunes) ethernet to AEx

    4. Apple TV 2 (ATV2) using WiFi

    5. MacBook, iPad2, 2 iPhone 4 using WiFi and homesharing

Until the past couple of days our complete system has worked perfectly.  Now we are getting dropped "iTunes not available" error messages while watching rented movies and TV shows.  We have to continouly back out and into Play again to continue watching them.  This happens often during a single 60-90 minute show. VERY annoying.

We are getting "iTune is currently unavailable. Try again later" or "An error occurred loading this content" messages when trying to connect to our MacBook library. I CAN connect to the Mac tower's library (hardwired to AEx).

iCloud music can't even play a single song in any playlist without the  "iTune is currently unavailable. Try again later" message.

    This worked for me:

I reset all my Airport Express & Base Stations back to the default and set up my network again.

Watched an entire movie. No Drops.

I think that is the key for now.

Oh well, i'm totally confused now. I thought the reason for running Apple was to avoid the technical mumbo jumbo! Anyway I have the same issue whereby i can see all my content but when I click to play anything i just get a spinning wheel. So how ridiculous is this workaround. I use my laptop and Apple Remote desktop to access my iMac (which is in the office next door) and then I play a video from the iMac and switch it to play to the Apple TV – then it works fine! Not sure what else to do but it's feeling a little steampunk at the moment. Anyone else has this exact problem

What is airport express and base station?  Is this on the Mac or itunes?

Airport Express is a wireless router made by Apple.  Consider it the little brother of the Aiport Extreme.
