Apple is not trying to phase out USB modems. They discontinued their own USB modem several years ago and are not supporting it in Lion because it was a soft-modem, not a full controller design, that relied partially on software supplied by Motorola. There are a number of full controller usb modems on the market that work just fine with Lion, US Robotics and Zoom to ame the two most prominent.

I am having the same problem with my MacBook Air that has Mac OS X Ver 10.7.2.
I have spoken to the Tata Helpline but they keep asking me to download drivers from their website that don't seem to work.
Could you please provide me a link to where you downloaded the patch from?

If your Tata Photon + is the make of Olive VME, then you have to visit the Tata Store near to you, they will run the patch for the same and can make it working. The available drivers on tata photon site doesn't work.
I do have the patch but i cannot attach it here, if you could provide me your email id, i can send the patch to you on your email id.

I hope the Tata Photon Plus which you are using is of VME Olive 101. If it is so, then it should surely work.

try holding down the "3" and the "2" keys at the same time when the computer starts. Most of these usb modems are 32 bit, and only work in 32 bit mode. Some of them might work past 32 bit mode, but need to be installed in 32 bit mode.
