in other words, does the Apple server software make it possible to use home sharing over the internet?

To be honest I don't know however it would be much easier to set up iTunes Match. It's a much more simple and elegant solution.

I have itunes match. its good but its not perfect. it downloads wrong versions of songs. for example it downloads the censored version of many of my songs. plus it doesnt do podcasts, movies, tvshows, books.
plus it doesnt show my smart playlists in the same track order as on my computer. its good but it has bugs and shortcomings.
thanks for the suggestion but i'd like to try the way i initially posted about.

I got it, I haven't started using iTunes Match yet (too cheap) so I can't really speak from experience. However that being said you may want to stick with it, rememeber it's the first version of it so as it matures you may have more control.
I'll stay on the mail list for this thread, I'm curious to see if anyone has any suggestions.
