I had to do the following trick:

Wait for popup menu saying "PODCAST can't download. OK/Try again"
Choose OK.
Then you can swip your finger over the podcast and get DELETE

Jan 30, 2012 4:03 PM in response to arbitrageby ldxy,I had a similar problem. One of my podcasts got stuck in processing mode and wouldn't allow me to swipe it to delete. It also didn't work if I turned off WiFi or re setting my phone. I finally came up with the idea to put my phone in airplane mode and then I got the error that the podcast couldn't download. I was then able to swipe it to delete the podcast.

Feb 7, 2012 1:24 AM in response to ngplthaneby Airman5877,Absolutely brilliant. I have been trying for weeks to remove a stalled download and have asked on forums without success. You were absolutely right - so simple. Thanks

Feb 11, 2012 12:45 PM in response to grasdkby Kinabu,That seemed like great advice but it never said "podcastm(or anything else) cant download after turning off the wifi. I can not horizontally swipe the podcast downloads in iTunes or music>podcasts. I have about 10 apps that are paused and I'm going a little crazy.

May 2, 2012 12:11 PM in response to alexaw63by mad_season90,I tried “swipe right-left” and it worked for some tracks. There are some tracks that are not giving me the “delete” option. Then, I tried logging out the store and a restart, but this didn’t work for the remaining tracks. I have an issue with a specific CD that has an error downloading the tracks form iTunes Match, and now, I can’t remove these from the downloads section on my iPad 2 (wifi iOS 5).

Aug 20, 2012 1:25 PM in response to arbitrageby Bryanizer,Yeah, so I suppose some of us have found some extremely irritating issues with iTunes.
So, I purchased a movie in HD and I don't want it on my iPad, there isn't enough space for it. I don't want to delete anything from the iPad. if I try to initiate the download, an error message appears telling me I haven't the space for it, therefore, I cannot pause the download and swipe from right to left to make the delete key appear.
RIDICULOUS!!!!!
Please make iTunes material more manageable Apple.
How about long press functions to bring up options like on Android OS.
9 out of 10 times I prefer iOS, but instances like these are annoying.

Aug 20, 2012 1:43 PM in response to arbitrageby Bryanizer,Okay, I gave in and removed a few apps with the intention of downloading them again after I deleted the movie. The movie began downloading and now there is no pause button. Seriously?! Now I have to download 5GB of data I don't want on the iPad.
I tried deleting it in the "videos" app and it disappeared from there, but it is still downloading in iTunes.
Please fix Apple.

Sep 11, 2012 10:06 PM in response to arbitrageby dodo_islander,Me too!!! I just can't figure it out: no delete button when I swipe right-to-left or left-to-right. I've killed the video and iTunes apps and restarted. I've put it in airplane mode. I've signed out. I've tried everything and the downloads just won't go away. One of them doesn't even have the option to pause.
This stuff is broken. I am switching to Samsung. They try harder to win my business.
