Hi,

i have the newest Version of OSX Lion and of Aperture 3. The Places function does not work. All Buttons and functions which are assosciated with the function of GPS are grey. I have no possibility to push any Button that has something to do with GPS Information. The Map ist a little bit light and i cannot zoom in it. It also has noch Needles to show locations. If i import some Pictures with geoinformation, aperture do not show it on the map. Some ideas please! Thank you very much.

    Tobi,

    Can you post a screenshot?

Aperture needs a connection to the Internet to get to Google Maps.  However, since you are obviously connected to the Internet, since you have written a message to this forum!  That being said,

The Map ist a little bit light and i cannot zoom in it.

This sounds like you are not connected to the Internet.  It is how my Places behave when I do not have WiFi.

Maybe with a screenshot someone can see something important in your set up.

    Hello Tobi,

I had a very similar problem: places view only showing the images that not have been geo tagged - empty map like you. I just solved it by trashing the Aperture Preference files, have a look at this thread, perhaps this will work for you too: Invisible Filter in "Places" View: How to clear it?

    Regards

    Hello Nathan,

my Places look like this, when the Internet Connection is missing: Aperture usually complains -

    Cheers,

    Leonie,

Yes, your screenshot is what I expected, but also why I was wondering what Tobi's screen looked like -- wondering if his looked like it was not connected.

However, Tobi's definitely does not have the warning.  Strange, though, that when my Places shows the whole world view, it is much more colorful than Tobi's.  I cannot post a screenshot until later, but I find it strange that Tobi's "normal" Places map and your "Disconnected" map look the same.  They both look like a "base map."

If Leonie's suggestion doesn't pan out, I still have a suspicion that there is something wrong with Aperture's connection to Google Maps.

This is speculation -- none of us know how this really works.  However, I am wondering how exactly Aperture gets Google map information.  It probably does not get it through HTTP.  I.e., it probably gets it from a Google maps server with a special protocol, and not the HTTP protocol that our web browsers use.

However, just a troubleshooting task to try: With your web browser, can you connect to http://maps.google.com?  Can you connect to the Google Maps site that you would normally use?  (Weil Sie Deutsch sprechen, I assume you are not connecting from the United States, where we use maps.google.com; I assume that you would normally use a different server.)
