A lot off apps seem to have trouble running stable On my 1st gen iPad. Especially Safari seems to endure a lot of them. But also itunes U, comic book lover etc have their share of troubles. It does not seem related to iCloud as i saw mentioned because it was happening before, during iCloud and after turningit off again.

It gets kind of annoying now. :/

Also my iPad is really getting slow it seems. Btw clean install, not many apps installed and no history from a previous backup.

iPad, iOS 5.0.1

    Try a reboot.

To reboot your iPad, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears. If, during this process, a slider appears on the screen to power it off, ignore it and keep holding the buttons down.

Rebooting your iPad can solve a lot of problems.

I have tried turning it (really) off and on. I gues restarting it your way is about the same? I did restart it now following your method so we will see. I'll keep you posted.

Also i changed my background picture into a standard wallpaper because unlocking seemed slow.

No. Restarting (turning off/on) is not the same as rebooting. Hopefully a reboot works for you.

Mark, it is slowing down and crashing because you have too much stuff going on.  The ios is supposed to handle that, but sometimes it just doesn't.  Comic books, heavy net use, and graphic intensive stuff are culprits.

But you can minimize the issue by shutting down apps all the way, and from time to time, rebooting the machine.  This sort of cleans it out.

To fully shut down an app, double tap the home key to get the taks bar.  Touch and hold any of the task bar icons until they jiggle, the tough the minus sign to fully close them.  Then do the reboot by holding the home and sleep button until the apple logo appears.  Ignore the red slider.

If you get in the habit of closing of the task bar apps fairly regularly you should find that you will not have the same degree of issues, and will not need to reboot very often.

Thanks but since the crashing I made it my habit not to have more than 2 apps open at the same time. Doesn't seem to help though. :(

I have the same problem, Original iPad, don't keep many apps open, slow sometimes and safari, itunes U and others crash.  I have tried rebooting and helps for a little then it goes right back to the occassional crashes.

After my reboot (with home and sleep button) it has not crashed since the 19th.

My guess is that something fills up when opening a lot of large graphical pdf and other documents like comic books. Something which is not cleared by the OS for some reason.

I did not try itunes U since though. I'll try that soon and keep you posted.
