Be sure to add this printer to your computer (so that your computer's OS recognizes it) and that you are using the very latest printer driver from the manufacturer when installing it.

If you are connecting the printer to the AirPort Extreme using the USB port.....
Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
Click the small + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Click your printer to highlight it
Select the correct printer location when you try to print. You must choose the correct printer "location".

Thanks. I've gone to system prefs. Added the printer. It shows it's there. When I attempt to print a word document, it acts like it's sending. But when I open the que, it's empty. Then when I click on the utility to pull up the printer list, it's blank.
