Q: I can't tab in pages.  The tab button next to the justification buttons is not visible.

I am trying to tab in pages and there is no tab button on the iPad 2 keyboard.  I saw online that there should be a tab button on the format bar at the top of the pages screen.  I do not have a tab button in the format bar....   Is there any way to find out how to tab?  I can insert the tabs, I just do not have a way to tab the text.

    Unfortunately, the only way to tab the text in Pages iOS 5.x is to tap and add an insertion point, tap again to get the options bar, tap the arrow on the options bar to expose the "Insert..." button, tap the "Insert..." button and select "Tab" - this will move your text one tab to the right. You can add Tab Stops by tapping the ruler to add additional stops. There really should be a tab key on the keyboard to make life simpler. screenshot1.jpg screenshot2.jpg

    what am I missing? there's no arrow anywhere on the ruler for the newest iteration of Pages... the help menus says to tap it to insert a tab, but it's now impossible to insert any of those break -- tab, page, line, etc... this is frustrating and after an hour of searching the web and the help communities it's driving me to look for another word processor for the iPad...

    Tony,

    Though you didn't say what device and software you have, I'll assume you have an iPad with the latest version of Pages installed;

    The latest version of Pages moved the tab button that used to be on the tool bar to a submenu that you access by:

    1. Tap once in your text to make an insertion point

    2. Tap the insertion point one more time and you should see a menu above it that says "Select |  Select All |  Paste | Insert"

    3. Tap on the word "Insert" and you will be presented with a menu of options. The top option is "Tab" - if you tap the word Tab a tab will then be inserted into your text

    4. This will also work in text contained in a text box - getting the initial insertion point to be inserted takes practice, but once you have an insertion point, tapping it once will open a menu (less options for text boxes) where the first option is "Tab" - tap the word Tab and a tab is inserted.

    I'm guessing you are having trouble getting the initial insertion point. It takes a light touch, a bit of patience and a little practice, but it does work. You will get there eventually.

    If you split the keyboard by putting two fingers or both thumbs on the keyboard and drag out to the sides, a TAB key arrow will appear at the top of your keyboard on the left hand side.
