Q: FCPX keeps grabbing memory until performance grounds to a halt, why?

I have a 2010 iMac with 16 GB on OS 10.6.8.

FCPX works great, and I typically work with no other applications running.

At start there is 12-13 GB free, but after working for 2-3 hours editing multible projects (all short and title intensive) and no sharing, I can watch the RAM slowly disappear until performance grounds to a halt (spinning wheel).

I monitor this with the FREE RAM form the APP store, and it is repeatable.

Please advise, thanks.

This seems to be widespread issue with FCPX and specially in combination with Lion. Some claim to have success to write purge in Terminal to regain the "lost" memory or use some of many free Application who free up memory, like this for example http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24279/ifreemem. No definite solution.

    Thanks.

It is wise to assume Apple is on it, or does it help to submit to them?

Your guess . . . I'm rapidly losing faith in Apple - but what's the alternative?

I had great hopes Andy about FCPX but I am pessimistic about the next update. It must be a radical one,

FCP XI. Not small fixes. But I still hope, because I like FCPX and the option we have? Premiere, no way.

I like FCP X too. The potential for it is huge - but I feel Apple have really let us down with this one. At first, we all thought we could tolerate the bugs for a short while because Apple would be working on fixes for the problems, but it's getting beyond a joke now. How many months does it take for them to make the app professionally workable?

I also have this same problem of increasing memory usage during long editing periods with FCPX. I was thinking of increasing my 8GB memory to 12 GB but it seams that would not cure this problem of dropped frames and crashes. Someone said this was due to memory leak in the system where the software does no release the temporary memory used for edits. Does anyone know of a way of purging the memory, apart for re-starting FCPX?
