Q: Sd card reader on the 27" iMac.
Can we use this card reader for storage instead of usb stick flash drives? Would it be faster than usb flash drives? If we can do this, which cards should we use?

I've used the SD card slot in place of my much larger USB flash drive. I like the SD cards because I can put them in my wallet. The SD card reader slot is also on the USB bus so you may or may not notice any performance improvements over the USB flash drive.
