Sep 5, 2011 9:12 PM in response to logicdwby logicdw,UPDATE 2
Still no solution but more info and testing: Windows XP acts a little different. I am able to create zip files under XP through "right-click>send to>zip folder" but can not load SolidWorks files off the lion share though I do get a different, generic error message than Windows 7. I have tried to connect to a different machine with Lion (non server) and get the same results.
Thank you to those who are filing bug reports and finding more specific errors. Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

I can open Solidworks files "read only" from the Lion share in Windows 7 when they are enclosed in zip folders.

Oct 4, 2011 5:06 PM in response to logicdwby logicdw,UPDATE 4
Tried to copy a folder with a custom icon off the Lion Share and got an MSDOS error. Also tried opening files with Solidworks 2012 and still can't.
Looks like I'll have to abandon Lion and migrate my server back to Snow Leopard Client.

Oct 13, 2011 7:10 AM in response to logicdwby rickblackdog,Can anyone verify this issue is reolved with yesterdays update?
-
Oct 16, 2011 2:13 AM in response to rickblackdogby iProfound,I can verify that this issue still exists even after installing the latest update. I too am having the same problem.
I bought my Mac Mini server for this purpose (SMB File Sharing for a small office) - And I get the permission error, mostly on Microsoft Office 2003 client PCs.
REALLY annoying. Hoping for a fix to be released very soon. It's sitting here gathering dust until this issue is fixed.
I rang up support and they recorded my email address and will supposedly notify me once a fix is released. You could do the same?
I even tried installing the REAL Samba3, but could not find out how to configure it properly for ldap/open directory that is built into the OS. :-(

Oct 16, 2011 8:52 AM in response to iProfoundby wim_hocu,I have the same problem.
Use the 10.7.2, the latest update.
Read/write promissions erroy stays.
Dirty work arround
as root
crontab -e
* * * * * /usr/local/bin/right.sh
right.sh
chmod -R 777 /path_to_share
Every minute the cron will change the rights of the files/folders
Apple has droped SAMBA. after all I 10.7 server is a real downsize server.
So still waiting for an update.

Oct 17, 2011 6:49 PM in response to logicdwby Zapplerecords,I'm not sure if it's related exactly, but I was able to connect to shared drives on Win7 and XP from my Lion server mini. It worked well and I used it a lot yesterday. i also updated to 10.7.2 yesterday. After the update those shared systems no longer appear as options, and I can't get from the Win boxes back to the Mac either.
No other changes than the 10.7.2 update.

Oct 18, 2011 9:04 PM in response to logicdwby tpesce,I have what seems to be the same problem. I can't open MS Office or Quicken files.
Fresh install (not an upgrade) of Lion Server 10.7.2.
Windows XP client.
I've tried both OD and local users.
I've played around with various combinations of ACL and Unix permissions.
I can create/delete and edit (with textedit) files.
Here are some of the things I'm seeing:
Select New -> Microsoft Word Document from the Explorer context menu, file is created successfully.
Double-click file and after Word opens I get "word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges"
Select New -> Microsoft Excel Worksheet from the Explorer context menu, file is created successfully.
Double-click file and after Excel opens I get "The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. ..."
Ditto with PowerPoint: "PowerPoint was unable to open or save this document. Please ensure that you have access privileges to read or write the document ..."
Similarly, trying to double-click a Quicken file opens Quicken 2011 in a state where it keeps asking me if I want to open the file I just clicked, and confirming just taked me back to the same question.
I tried to dig into things with Wireshark, and the only common thing I could find that looked like an error was this:
SMB 142 NT Trans Request, NT IOCTL FILE_SYSTEM Function:0x0030, FID: 0x0001
SMB 93 NT Trans Response, FID: 0x0001, NT IOCTL, Error: STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED

Oct 19, 2011 12:57 PM in response to tpesceby wim_hocu,A new server 10.7.2 installed, as database server.
Windows 7 Pro client same problem, unix rights "rw-------".
I have left to old server 10.4.11 running as file server for the windows client.
Please Apple, ship osx server 10.7 with Samba, $ 400,-- is nothing for a good product.
when you set the right to "rwx------" it is possible to open the file.
In the crontab you can also set to owner and group. chmod -R name:group /path.
The server I have installed 10 days ago, will also get a 10.4.11 file server for the windows clients.
Have anyone tested with a nfs share?

Nov 15, 2011 1:56 PM in response to logicdwby itdoug,Wish I had some answers to provide, but since I don't I will simply add my name to the list of people affected by this. We are testing Lion server on a Mac/Windows active directory domain. So far I can share “.docx” files between Mac and Windows clients without issue. But I cannot open ".xls, .xlsx, or .doc” files on the Windows clients. This is incredibly frustrating as Apple has had numerous long running Windows filesharing bugs dating all the way back to 10.5. They promised to fix them each subsequent release and either failed to or introduced new issues. I really hope they can find a way to fix this.

Nov 30, 2011 12:40 PM in response to logicdwby logicdw,UPDATE 5
Still no luck with AFP volumes, though creating zip files now works and I can see temporary files being created on the drive for the few seconds that it tries to load the file.
I also shared a bootcamp volume (NTFS, GUID partition) with the windows machine and can't connect to it. I get Network error code: 0x80070035 "The network path was not found"

Jan 3, 2012 3:29 PM in response to logicdwby iProfound,★HelpfulUntil this issue is fixed by Apple... (Hopefully it WILL be fixed)
I am going to use this instead:
It appears as a removable (eg USB) drive letter, but maps to an SFTP server.
I'll use SFTP to access the files on my mac mini server for now. I have trialled the program, seems to work quite well.

Feb 1, 2012 4:39 PM in response to logicdwby logicdw,UPDATE 6 - OS X Lion 10.7.3
The 10.7.3 update has done some interesting things and provided a work around. I still can't double-click SolidWorks files to open them, this time with a 2 new error messages "your file is being used by another user. Do you want to open a copy? & An error was encountered while trying to open your file. Contact Technical Support for a possible solution."
The new workaround that works about 50% of the time. The rest of the time gives me the error or opens an empty solidworks file with nothing in the feature tree.
Open Solidworks
Drag the file/assembly from your Apple drive to the gray program area with the Solidworks logo on it.

Feb 2, 2012 8:52 AM in response to logicdwby jimfromma,Not sure if this will help, but I had the same problem until I turned AFP off. Now I only use SMB on all Macs and PC's and have no more permission problems.

Feb 3, 2012 11:30 AM in response to logicdwby chang8,What are the permission? I had something similar and by adding the Everyone group with the Full Control allowed all different users including the guest account to save and edit any file created by anyone in my share.
