Aug 1, 2011 5:27 PM in response to chinomage19by jasonfromnepean,You may have tried this but didn't specify, but try putting the headphones back in and while playing a song, take them out without stopping or pausing the song manually.
My old iPhone 3G did this once or twice and that fixed it.

Aug 1, 2011 6:07 PM in response to jasonfromnepeanby chinomage19,Yeah, tried that as well. Many, many, many times, along with the working the headphone in and out move as well. Zilch. I'm getting pretty frustrated, actually; as good as Apple has been, I'm not going to pay $200 to get a replacement phone like support is saying (since I'm now completely out of warranty, even though this phone is only a week old).

Aug 1, 2011 7:55 PM in response to chinomage19by jasonfromnepean,Thats really weird, from what I have read your not the only one to suffer from this glitch. Repeated (10+) times of in and out rapidly fixed others.
I wonder if there is anything you can do to trick it...

Jan 23, 2012 4:00 PM in response to chinomage19by ryuko098,This seems to be a unique problem to the iPhone 4. All of the other tips to fix this issue I've seen so far appear to have been with 3 & earlier models. Maybe Apple "fixed" the problem with headphone jack sensors and there's some other issue here.
I have just gotten the same issue myself. It worked just fine yesterday, and today it went into headphone mode. Not once did I plug in headphones, either. None of the other fixes work for me.
Don't fall for the BS where they want you to buy another iPhone. Remember that these phones are manufactured in a Chinese factory that is suspected to have human rights issues - who knows what sort of defects could be in your phone. Be insistent that it is a factory defect and must be repaired or replaced free of charge. I know I'll be making a trip to my Apple Store soon!

Feb 1, 2012 6:16 PM in response to chinomage19by bakerde2006,I had the problem where the jack got wet and was stuck in headphone mode. Did some research online and found one that said to hold the headphone port up to your mouth and suck air in....this must have dried it out as the speakers are now functional again.

Feb 1, 2012 7:16 PM in response to bakerde2006by ryuko098,I'm not sure that blowing or sucking air fom the jack is going to do anything. I wouldn't trust it.
However, another post mentioned turning off the phone and placing it in a bag of rice. It makes more sense, and worked fine for me.
I now have a felt pouch I keep my iPhone in when I need to keep it in the car. This helps keep it dry on humid days.

Feb 1, 2012 7:20 PM in response to chinomage19by Defiled,Wait so your phone was replaced and has the same issue?

Feb 2, 2012 5:03 AM in response to chinomage19by bakerde2006,Well I mentioned the sucking air through the port because that's what I ended up doing and it was the only thing that got it out of headphone mode for me. As for the other, no my phone wasn't replaced....I was just sharing my story in that I got water in the headphone jack and the way I fixed was sucking air through the top and this apparently dried it out enough to switch out of headphone mode. Hopefully that makes more sense.

Mar 27, 2012 3:48 PM in response to ryuko098by Bluetothecore,I had the same symptoms described above and tried all of the 'fixes',which seemed to work for others, without success. Plugging and unplugging, rebooting, etc. the only thing which worked for me was one long continuous suck of air through the headphone socket. Job done!

Apr 21, 2012 11:28 AM in response to bakerde2006by chrisnel,I had the same symptoms as the first post on an iPhone 4 that had momentary contact with some spilt soda drink.
The following did not work fo me:
- sticking in and out a headphone jack, 20 times or more
- using a hair dryer to blow into the headphone socket
What worked was
- a continuous suck of air through the headphone socket
Still can't believe it.

May 1, 2012 11:00 AM in response to chinomage19by Waterjetman,I Have the 4s with the same problem off and on for last couple of months. Sometimes the fixes above work sometimes they dont and it just fixes itself. However I noticed something new today. If I wiggle the home button to one side without actually depressing it headphone mode goes off as long as I hold the button there. This sounds like more then dirt stuck in the jack to me. Just wondering who else this method may work for. Trading my phone in tonight. This phone has been nothing but issues since new. Very dissapointed in apple.
Update. The button actually seems irrellevant. If I squeeze the area to the left of my home button the sound comes back instantly. Wow

May 1, 2012 3:31 PM in response to chinomage19by sarahmcgill,I just ran into this problem. I just had to put the headphones in and out once. I've NEVER used my headphones and it could have gotten a little wet today but thank god i didn't have to suck on the headphone dohicky!

Jul 14, 2012 12:41 PM in response to chrisnelby DaveLair27,sucking air through the headphone jack worked for me as well, I have no idea how or why, but it did the trick...

Sep 10, 2012 3:49 PM in response to chinomage19by Murreell,I just had the same problem..to be fair I was getting a bit worried as I've only had it for a few weeks and my track record isn't very good..but a long suck of air out of the audio jack was good enough for me!
