    Ugh, this *****.

I have two AppleIDs - one for work and one personal.  I inherited a MBP at work, and in order to update apps, it's asking me for an AppleID.  I sure as **** don't want to use the personal one on a work computer, and the work id is making me put my CC# associated with this account.  I definitely don't want that!

As long as companies provide computers for employee use, this will be a problem.  Apple's not doing a good job of delineating between work and personal identities here.

This is bloody disgusting. It's utterly unacceptable that apple try and force you to enter credit card details to download free apps. Bugger that for a game of soldiers. I honestly can't comprehend why people like apple software and services, they're totally awful.

The IT department (and maybe financial dept) at yoru job should be managing AppleIDs used to purchase and install software.

They don't try and force you or require you to do that.

Yes they do.  If you don't have a CC number attached to your account, the App Store makes you review your account.  It doesn't matter what you're doing.  You can be downloading free apps, or like I was, updating existing apps.  It kicks you into the browser and you have to go through several pages.  One of the pages asks for a CC number and it won't let you pass until you get one.

Anyway, I got around this by attaching this to a PayPal account.  Unlike an AppleID, I can delete a PayPal account.

So review it and select None for the CC type which is what I have done.

Just curious, how many people have to tell you that the "none" option is not there for existing IDs before you get it?

    ???

I don't think it matters how many times I tell someone.

I get the None button everytime I try it using an existing AppleID.

Shame on You Apple. iTunes bugs and ID-traps make me angry and thinking of alternatives...

I can't add my music to my library.

Why is there no update yet?

in order to solve that problem, another problem came up.

I can not download a free app from the iTunes store, without a credit card.

Why not? Because I have to verify my apple ID (see Shu Chow).

And there is now NONE button!

    and

Why can't I delete my apple ID? Create a new ID - create a new email address - create a new name??????

    Make it work! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

In reading through this thread and checking my own account information from my 2 Apple IDs (personal and work) and then looking at one of my customers IDs I'm seeing a lot of what is posted. Chris CA I have the same payment options on both of my accounts but the None button for my customer's account is non existent. To get around the problem we went ahead and finished the review by having her enter the CC info. We then went into her account information, selected payment info, and the NONE option was there. We made the change and her CC info was removed.

The problem I see is that you are more or less forced to, in some instances, enter some form of CC information because that None button isn't present from every version of the form.

It may show up for you, but it does not show up for me today, Feb 23 2012.

When I sign in to the Mac App Store with an existing Apple Id, it prompts me with:

When I click Review, then Continue, and agree to the terms and conditions I see the following screen.

There is no option for none, and I've not yet found any way to complete the review and complete the "purchase" of the free software.

I second that there is no "none" option.

No "none"option here either. Chris CA, why don't you understand that we simply don't have it. You're not helping.
