Device does not wake on network access

I am using a Desktop iMAC (Intel Core Duo with Lion 10.7.2) with Energy saver settings to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity.  However even though the setting is selected to "Wake on Network Access", the device can not be reached on the wired or wireless network unless one of its keys is touched to wake it up.  Any one familiar with this issue and how to fix it

    You need a specific kind of application to send the wake-on-LAN packet.

    I'm having the same issue since I upgraded to the recent lion update. My iMac isn't seen in the finder bar for connecting to and more annoyingly it doesn't wake up for my Apple TV.

    If yoy're using some sort of remote desktop, make sure it is plugged via ethernet. and the setting is enabled, sadly this dodn't work for me i'm still looking, but if you haven't done this already. make sure.

    I too have just started having this issue. It was working fine last week. I am not sure if it is related to the Airport Base Station firmware update or the Lion 10.7.3 update. Sure hope this is fixed. It is a real inconveniance. Please post back if a solution is found.

    My Wake for Network Access does not work either using Lion 10.7.3 or the latest Airport Base station update.  Is there a solution to this problem yet?  Thanks!

    Same problem here.  MacBook Pro will neither "see" the iMac in Finder window's Shared list nor wake it up over wi-fi.  I have updated to 10.7.3 on both machines.  Time Capsule and AirPort Express have both been updated to the latest 7.6.1 firmware.  Wake for network activity stopped working a few weeks ago, not exactly sure when though.


    I would add that my iPhone does wake the iMac when I launch the Remote app and it connects, succesfully, to my iTunes library on the iMac.  And after the iMac wakes up, the MacBook Pro can "see" it.  The iMac appears in the Shared list in the Finder windows' left column.  But it disappears again when it goes to sleep.

    I've been having problems with wake for network access on Lion as well. Similarly to others, if my iMac has recently gone into sleep mode, then it will wake up for Apple TV use or for file and screen sharing from another computer. After an extended period of time, however, all such functionality disappears.


    I've been rooting around in System Profile and have found something that may be of interest. Under the Hardware section, in the Power menu, there is a parameter called 'PrioritizeNetworkReachabilityOverSleep'. On both my iMac and Macbook this is set to zero (i.e. 'no').


    Does anybody have any idea what it means? And if there is any way to change it? If I had to guess, it sounds as though there is a setting somewhere in the system configuration (thought apparently not visible from the GUI) that sets the computer to remain in sleep mode rather than briefly waking to maintain its registration with the relevant Bonjour sleep proxies.


    Hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of this, as over six months after Lion's release the problem has yet to be resolved by Apple through version updates, something that is especially frustrating given how excellent a feature wake on network access is when it can be reliably coupled with an Apple TV or Back to my Mac.

    That was a good find, EmpyreanUK, but am not sure what it all means or how to change anything...Here is what my POWER setup looks like:


    System Power Settings:


      AC Power:

      System Sleep Timer (Minutes):          30

      Sleep on Power Button:          Yes

      Automatic Restart on Power Loss:          No

    Anyone at Apple aware of this issue?

    Having the same problem here


    Not sure if its related to the recent 10.7.3 update or the latest firmware update to the time capsule.


    as mentioned above for a while after system sleep the imac is still reachable by appletv or iphone/ipad but after a period it unable to be found anymore.


    Hopefully a fix will be here shortly


    NB I never suffered the wifi drop out problem widely reported on the forums
