LPro9, why does a RIGHT click de-select everything now?

We have upgraded to L9, why now, when I make complex selections in the arrange window, then RIGHT click in some space to select/change a tool does Logic de-select everything?

If you're working on a Pianoroll editor with lots of midi this is mindblowingly disruptive to workflow, to have to click on one of the tiny, selected notes for no particular reason.

Is there something I have missed in the prefs or are we stuck with this new behaviour?

In Prefs>General>Edit tab, make the 'right click acts as' = tool menu.

Or, does the damned thing have to be set to "Tool Menu" only to work properly?

Replaced the first crossed out text with "it," and the second crossed out text with "how I want" - and you're good to go.

Can't comment on Atari, but in L8 you didn't even have the option to open tool menu & shortcut menu at the same time, and the behavior of the shortcut was similar (although the contents of the menu are much different).

I wouldn't assume anything, and am not going to try and think of an advantage for having it this way because:

    a) I did not participate in the decision making process of the designers, maybe they have a reason - maybe it was oversight.  I don't care because:

    2) work with what you have.  ie: if the software doesn't do exactly what you want, send a feature request and then figure out to how do what you need with what you have.  escape button brings up the tool menu for instance.

    c) I don't use the right click button like that anyway.  For shortcut I hold control, right click is a tool, any other tools that I ever use can be accessed with key commands or modifier keys+mouse button.

It was the same in Logic 8, with the exception that there was no combo Tools/Shortcut menu option.

The shortcut menu selection behaves the same in both versions of Logic as does the tools only selection.. it's probably the "shortcut menu" call that overrides the separate toolbox behavior.

As you've noted, if you want to have the shortcut menu and tool combo work as you prefer, you have to right click on a selected region, note....etc

The right-click tool is set to pointer tool. Disable/change right click tool in Logic Pref/General/Editing/Right mouse button.
