I had heard that rumour.
However, since I'm not developing for ATV as such, I haven't tried the ATV beta.
I did think I'd wait for the official fix, but might consider taking a risk...

I might be willing to take the risk, however I don't think I could get my hands on the beta...right?

You'd need to sign up as an iOS developer. Mind, that's arguably cheaper than buying an HDMI detective gadget. ;o)

Same probleme here.

I can't turn to 720p 60Hz.

Did sombody know what I can do ? On 4.3 it works well with my TV.

Really want this fixed; I didn't have stuttering pan shots on my previous Panasonic (LZD 81), so it must have displayed at 60hz, and it must be possible. But judging from some of the weekend rumour mongering it could we'll be that there is a newer version of the box coming out shortly, http://macdailynews.com/2012/02/12/apple-tv-disappears-from-shelves-could-see-up date-next-month/
and then I imagine all efforts will be concentrated on that version... because this bug should have been sorted out already...

I recently changed my hdmi cable from a generic 1.3 to an Apple proprietary 1.4, and now my Apple TV will change resolutions on a Panasonic DT30. So clearly the HDMI version is key. Unfortunately at 50hz the flickering is substantially worse. I will try a few changes of options on the menu, such as game mode, turning off all frame creation etc, but for anyone with a Panasonic tv thinking of upgrading their atv if a new one gets released next week I would wait and see if there are any reports about this issue in case it hasn't been addressed.

I too have this problem with my Panasonic 50GT30 plasma. Not possible to select 720p60.
I bought a new HDMI cable (1.4) but that did not help either. Quite frustrating. Don't want to rent movies from iTunes store and watch the stuttery playback at 720p50.

I changed my hdmi cable to an Apple hdmi cable. Still unable to switch to 60 hz

Sorry to hear that, it has worked for me; just a suggestion but did you try rebooting the atv, or maybe trying a different hdmi input. I have heard that even switching the cable direction round can make a difference...

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I tried those all - no help. It seems I have to invest some 100 euros to get a Gefen HDMI detective or something.

The new 5.0 release (released March 6th) fixes this issue for me on my old Panasonic PZ70.

Yes, the Apple TV update 5.0 fixed the issue for me too (Panasonic 50GT30). Great

And... It works for me too!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, 5 months after opening the thread.
I hope everyone else with this issue has been sorted too...
However.... I'm replacing my TV with a Samsung next week.... PLEASE tell me I'll get 720p/60Hz with that or the ATV2 is going in the bin/trash/whatever you may call it locally
Any info on the HDMI handshaking with a Samsung UE40D7000 would be very helpful!!
Just OOI - auto also selects 720p/60Hz with the Panasonic now, I don't need to select it manually to override the 50Hz setting.
Thanks for everyone who joined in with this thread, your comments have been appreciated!
