I have already tried all that. But pressing the shutdown button still doesn't shut the unit down. However when I shut it down by connecting it to the computer, I can't turn the unit back on unless I connect it to the computer again.

Hi Anyone
I am having problem shutting down my nano. Is anyone else having this issue? I am also having issues with pressing the up and down volume. Please assist.

You should just be able to hold down the "sleep" button and it should shut down. If not, you might have a glitchy iPod and should try to get it fixed if that's covered in your warranty.
