Q: Can't shut down the Nano

Did you try this, copied from iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting

Will not turn off

• Press the Sleep/Wake button.
  • Learn how the Sleep/Wake button works on iPod nano (6th generation).
• If the screen does not go dark, try resetting the device.

You should just be able to hold down the "sleep" button and it should shut down. If not, you might have a glitchy iPod and should try to get it fixed if that's covered in your warranty.
