Q: powerbook g4 purple horizontal lines across screen
Hi
Have a powerbook G4 (CPU 1.5) 5,8 version, 1.67GHz, 2gb RAM, 15 inch screen. No major problems previously.
Screen has suddenly developed a purple/pink hue with horizontal patterns to it. No joy by resarting, changing resolution, etc.
I'm guessing the most likely culprit is a faulty cable to the screen? As over the last month portions of the screen would go fuzzy when you altered the screen angle. Though LCD failure is a possibility? It is still usable, but cannot cope with fast changing information. Watching a DVD would be impossible.
Though the laptop is nearly 6, it boots up fast and is great as a quick internet access, etc, so am loathed to spend a grand to buy an new one if this is an easy fix. Has anyone had a problem like this fixed before? Is it doable yourself or is it a 'send it to apple' job? Vague price estimates anyone?
Any help appreciated.
Andrew
