while i do not get the famous beach ball
i do get a progress bar called "connecting" but nothing ever happens.
i tried once last week and it seemed to allow me to make an id for myself but i wasn't ready to buy a book.
what's up? a copyright problem? (I'm in Canada) and what are the alternatives, having bothered to compose a detailed photobook in iphoto already? i can make it into a pdf easy enough but will that be useful sending it somewhere else? where?
oh yeah. i'm using iphoto '09 on a macbook running os 10.6.8

Thanks Peter Joshua.
Q: "Do you have your Billing & Shipping information entered correctly?"
A: There is no request for it. I click the "buy book" button, get a warning that one of the photos is low resolution (OK), then the progress bar starts that says "connecting". The end. It just waits.
Q: "Is the "Print Products Store" (in iPhoto Preferences) set to your country?"
A: There is no option called "Print Products Store" in my iPhoto preferences.
My options can be seen in this screen shot:

If you want help then you need to provide basic information - lik what version of iPhoto you have for example, what happens, error messages, etc - for example you ahve not told the version you are using and inf yoru first post you omited the error message y0ou are getting - what else can you tell us that would let someone who only knows what you post assist
Unless you tell us your information then it is a very long process of people taking wild guesses and you telling them that they didn't consider things that you didn't tell
One wild guess which works for some situations is to go to the apple store (store.apple.com) to your account and re-enter all of your account information and verify that one click ordering is on

Yesterday I mentioned the version: "i'm using iphoto '09 on a macbook running os 10.6.8"
Today I mentioned the process. It contained no error message, just no progress:
1) "I click the "buy book" button,
2) get a warning that one of the photos is low resolution (OK),
3) then the progress bar starts that says "connecting".
4) The end. It just waits."
You can see the progress bar in the right-hand side of the screen shot in my previous posting.
Last week was the first time I explored the "buy book" option.
From my memory: I clicked on the button, was prompted to set up an Apple ID, which I did. I think I used the same ID as in iTunes. But I did NOT complete the whole process of buying a book at that time. I just wanted to know if it worked in Canada and what the price and process would be. It looked do-able so I halted the process and went back to editing the book inside iPhoto (it's listed under a "keepsakes" category).
SInce then I also printed the draft book on a normal printer. When doing so, I noticed that iPhoto converted it into a PDF.

And have you
go to the apple store (store.apple.com) to your account and re-enter all of your account information (do not just verify but re-enter) and verify that one click ordering is on
also prior to ordering
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
PS - re-read the thread - the first time you have mentioned the computer or the version of iPhoto was in your second post - and the error was first mentioned in your third post
Again we know nothing unless yo tell us - and this process of getting a little incomplete information folowed by a wild guess followed by getting more incomplete information followed by another wild guess followed by more incomplete information and your not even telling us if you tried the suggestions or what the results were makes this process very long and frustrating for both parties
