250 GB drives for $40...
You likely know something I don't, but I remember when the current one was replaced (required assistance: difficult install, data loss, open heart surgery), I was told that 160 was the max this machine could take.
250 would be nice, plenty of space for Startup. $40 also nice.
While looking around for G4 info, HDs, requirements etc, I ran across repeated advisories to update the firmware as you suggested.
I might not get to it for weeks (months?), but I will upgrade firmware, as well as replace the internal HD. And go back to it as the Startup Disk, so there's nothing atypical about the setup.
I'll do this even if I get a new Mac; this one is worth keeping as a spare. In retrospect, any issues I've had have been centered around the HD.
Thanx again, BDA!
