Playing around with Pages (I normaly use inDesign for all layout work)
I set up a template in Pages that match a template in IBA
(the page size should be 14.25 in x 10.65 in (72 dpi gets you your 1024 x 768 for IBA)
Then when impoting to IBA it all looks the same, type, photos etc. even videos.
You can output form Pages to PDF (with out the Apple watermark) and export to ePub (minus videos, columns, floting images etc.)
I am puzzled.
"export to ePub (minus videos,", I have used pages to create dynamic ePubs with video. As a matter of fact I jsut rechecked I made an ePub with ten of the best video of the Japanese Tsunami using Pages.
"Then when impoting to IBA it all looks the same, type, photos etc. even videos.", again I am puzzled. I can drag almost any thing web sites etc. to iBooks and they look the same if I chose keep style. These can contain anyything including pictures and video.
The video choices with Pages by the way are better than iBooks where I have to convert MP4 to M4V using Quicktime to put a video in iBooks.
I am not knocking iBooks which I think is a easy to use platform but at times I wonder if the output of iBooks Author really justifies using it since the Apple text books lack the speach function where iBooks will read the text to you if created with Pages and made into a regular ePub2. The abiltiy to copy text to your notes also is in regualr ePubs but not iBook Author's iBooks.
There are nice differences with iBooks Author but frankly much of the gee wize I could already do by tweaking Pages including the embeding of KeyNote presentations.
Yes, the videos do play in ePub, I missed it when I tried the first time.
My point was you could master in Pages if you need both PDF and ePub files and also open in IBA with out much reformatting.
The best thing with IBA is the widgets(keynote, html etc) and the support of columns and control of layout etc.(landscape mode)
Pages ePubs work as flowing text (like IBA portrait mode)
I know there is some way to work with layout and formatting in ePubs, like the Yellow Submarine book, but not sure how.
