This worked for me, not too sure about why the checksum was wrong, would not normally continue with an install if an error was seen , but all backed up via time machine so low risk.

Spoke too late, at the end of the install the summary window reads:
The installation failed
The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
Back to square one again. Still on 10.7.2.
First time in my apple owning period I have encountered problems such as this, its all worked up until now!

Same issue for me on BOTH of my Macs; 2007 Macbook & 2011 Macbook Pro. I honestly think this issue originate at Apple's servers; i.e. THE UPDATE FILE IS CORRUPTED/****** on their end :/
Gonna send them an email to at least report it; with mentions to the several discussions here about the issue

I finally managed to get it to install by going to software update (again) and giving it another go , trashed the earlier downloads as you say the files were corrupt, checksum do not match expected. Its either the file or the route, both of which are difficult to prove.

This is driving me bonkers... I have now tried every single possible solution and still I keep getting the checksum error! As said earlier this MUST be with Apple OR a combination of certain machines and their latest update.
Does anyone have a link to the file with a checksum that calculates correctly one can download elsewhere?
Apple is starting to loose its credibility but at least I had a good 15 years using Mac's flawlessly...
