This message appeared when I tried to save a Pages document. Anybody know what it means and what to do about it? I didn't do anything I haven't done before, and I don't know what other application the message could be referring to.

"The document could not be saved. The file has been changed by another application. Click Save Anyway to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click Revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes as a version."

As I answered in an other thread, I get this behavior when a document was treated with a script.

I guess that we may get the same behavior when <we use a so called "enhanced clipboard" or a tooldesigned to insert sentences when we type tis or that shortcut.

As you are the only one knowing what was really done, you are the only one able to decide which button must be depressed.

    Yvan,

I get that message without scripts or any third party tools that I am aware of.

I've never found any problems with the Save Anyway option.

    Hello Jerrold.

I described what I got and tried to find an explanation matching that.

This document was not created with a script and I did not use either an enhanced clipboard or a tool designed to insert sentences. I have now also gotten the same message in a second Pages doc that I created using text from the first, so I'm assuming the problem lies in the original doc.

It's possible, even probable, that this doc was created by copying text from a Word doc, so that may have some connection. But again, I've done that many times without incident.

I haven't seen any problem with the Save Anyway option, but one has to go through the process every time, which is annoying.

Now that you give the source of the datas, I'm not surprised.

I guess that it's the result of the new protection scheme introduced in Lion, enhanced in 10.7.3 and enhanced much more in Mountain Lion.

In an application aware of these new schemes, I guess that pasting datas issued from an other app would be transparent. Alas, iWork is old (delivered in january 2009). It's unaware of Sandboxing and I'm not surprised that it behave wrongly with a clipboard filled by a foreign application.

If I am right the problem will disappear with the next major upgrade.

I've lived with this behavior ever since autosave was introduced. I get frustrated but eventually get over it. I always thought it was due to incompatibility between google drive (actually insync) and autosave. Are you saving documents into a folder that is automatically syncing to another cloud service? Yvan, would these syncing services be treating my docs with a script?

PJ341 - you are asking in an one year old thread. Yvan is not on this forum any more. At the time the a lot of people had Lion and not Mountain Lion. Do you have Lion (MacOs system)? If so get Mountain Lion as it seems to work much better than Lion.
